Killer lesson Jermaine! Great playing, accommodating vibe for beginners, and amazing playing!
Really good video, and excellent lesson! You did a fantastic job of breaking it down note by note!
I do have one question, though. If, with the triplets, you are doing a subdivision syncopation of the octaves with the upbeat of 2 (two-pop-and-) and upbeat of 4 (four-pop-and-), don't you need to add one more slap so that you're playing the triplet after the note of the octave and finishing all three slaps before the next note of the ascending scale? This effectively makes five consecutive notes instead of four, one before the triplet (the pluck) and one after the triplet (fourth note of the scale). So instead of "tri-puh-let UH," as though the octave (pluck) starts on "and", it actually starts on the subdivision immediately prior to "and", giving it that funky syncopation, more like "pop-tri-puh-let-UH. UH UH". If the octave is the first note of the triplet, and if the octave remains one subdivision before "and", then a triplet starting on the octave isn't long enough to connect to the next note of the scale in the groove. At least that's how you play it throughout the video, but then when you get to the triplets it seems you almost shift the first note of the triplet (the octave) to line up with "and" of 2 and 4, making only four consecutive notes (when there should be five), thereby removing the syncopation.
But perhaps I misunderstood your instruction and I am mistaken. Please let me know! They both have very different sounds and I am interested to know which one you mean.
Such a good lesson! Thank you very much for this content
I thinks slap sounds better slowly. It allows space in-between the notes. Sometimes, less is more.
Tuning in Eb should be illegal
you're a really good educator, I'm subscribing and looking forward to more tutorials from you !
Great clip. Thanks for sharing! Probably one of the best videos I have seen on slap.
Ty for a awesome lesson…as a old guitar player, I need all the help I can get feeling the percussion.
why do a lesson with a supped up bass
Lots of ghost notes will help also
Cool video man!! It's nighttime here and I don't wanna wake anybody up, but I'll watch this again as soon as the sun has risen and slap my bass. Thanks!
Thanks for the amazing lesson man … ???? ..
What strings and gauge did you use on these? I hv the same bass
Thanks Jermaine. Your presentation of the thumb slap and pluck technique was very effective. I finally have a grove to showcase my technique
Thank you
Fantastic lesson. You demystified some concepts for me. Can’t wait to practice. Thank you!!!
Thank you for going slow.
Thanks for breaking it down so that even I have a chance to sound like a slap master. I'm struggling with when to throw in those ghost note plucks, but I'll keep working it. Thanks, you're a great teacher!
I don’t own a bass yet..(old guitar guy) Your vid here will be one of the first I work on.
Ty sir
Make me into Les Claypool!
Im in a rock band and thought why not learn slap and open my horizons bc we want to do a lil funk and stuff and this video helped alot. Thanks brother!
Jermaine. Teach that groove you did at the end of your lesson. Those cords.
Thanks man! Have a good one
Really nigga?
that's sick thanks bro…
Very nice Squire Bass. I had my eyes on a Spector, but seeing and hearing the Squire, I'm having second thoughts.
Freaking groovy bro!
Thank you so much has clicked in my head, amazing brother…
thank you
One of the best Slap Bass tutorials I've seen. You broke down what you're actually doing so we all can see exactly what you're doing. You're an awesome teacher; you definitely have the gift of teaching. I learned a lot, thank you.
How do you slap with your thumb and avoid hitting the other strings?
thank you sir, great lesson!
Wow, now I finally get how to slap, cause my problem was always lacks of grooves. Thanks man.
long scale (34'') ?
Thanks very much, your lessons have given me so many new ideas. You are a very good instructor.
Good vid! Do you have Rs210 or 212?
Very nice, thank you!
