  • I dislike the use of poplar wood in guitar so very much! Its a cheap wood that is easy to work with and that is the only reason its in instruments. While being in the hardwood category, its barely that compared to pine which is a softwood, but poplar actually has really low density, lower than most softwood. Its trash category for instruments.

  • Hi SMR, great video! How do these S by Solar news guitars actually compare to other entry-level guitars by bigger brands? Are they like Jackson JS series, Ibanez GIO series and so on? Thanks

  • When I bought my Solar E2.6 fro, Thomann being I am inCanada, a 800.00 US guitar after exchange and tax and duties, it was almost 1,200.00.
For me buying a S by Solar would be up between 550-650 CAD all said and done. It’s just not feasible for me.

  • Emg in the bridge
Delete the neck pickup. I think somebody on etsy makes a delete cover for them
    New nut
    Polish the frets
    Locking tuners
    Mini rip machine

  • Dude, where the build-quality review? I have been watching you for a couple years. Congrats on your success. Can we get some deeper content back?

  • To me fatter strings are like drivin a 4×4 36” muds, 8” lift, Chevy square body, small strings are like drivin a Toyota tundra midsize, I prefer the 4×4

  • I’m sold and will definitely pick one of these up. As for the pickups, I agree they need to be changed out with EMGS. That will make the guitar 100% better IMO. It will come to life. The stock pickups sound a bit sterile to my ears. Looking forward to seeing your upgrades Ray. Thanks again for posting for us!!

  • Every time I get a new guitar, no matter what the price point is, I clean every pieces and screws, etc …, and most important, I polish the hell of all the frets until they get shinny A.F. Every time I do the same treatment on a new guitar !!
And "Techwood" is a cool budget alternative to Ebony. When it's played very often and oiled, it feels very nice !

  • For what it is the guitar sounds pretty good honestly. Definitely muddy in the low end. But easily fixed. Also loved that last riff you played. Probably my favorite demo song you've done since I started following you 5 years ago along with the original demo used on the black Jim root strat.

  • Got my S by Solar in Summer and the frets were unpolished, too. Polished them afterwards myself. They didn't scratch at the sides but in winter the humidity dropped due to the heating, the wood shrank(dried) and the frets began to stick out and scratch a bit. Will need to file them a bit after winter.

  • As far as the squeals and stuff not feeling the same, could it just be that this guitar has passive pickups and you're used to EMGs? What I heard in this video sounded good to me, but I'm more of a doom metal guy–my #1 guitar is an LP Jr. copy I built from a kit with a P-90, and one of my other favorite guitars is the Gibson All American SG-I which has a single humbucker with a coil tap. All that to say, we have different ears and we're listening for different things and you probably just prefer the active humbuckers whereas I prefer the passive pickups. Also, check out Rick Beato's video on how string gauge effects tone. Using heavier strings might be hiding the squeals under a bunch of low end.

  • I got my dad a white s by solar 4 string bass and he about cried.. he's sending me gear pics now and I just used a new email for 10% off a rumble 15 to send him! Dudes gonna be back at it in no time. Looking for a decent guitar shop in west goeriga he can take it to for a set up and strings tho since we're not in same state.

  • Hey bro, Subscriber here lol. I have had guitars that don't respond well to pinch harmonics, and I have found that sometimes you have a couple of slightly high frets. The strings hit them a little and end up choking out my pinch harmonics.
