Is Taylor Guitar’s New 214ce Plus the Goldilocks Guitar in the 200 series?

For 2020, Taylor Guitars continued to expand their lineup, this time in the popular 200 Series. The new 200 Plus which includes both a square shoulder dreadnought version in the 210ce Plus as well as the perennially popular Grand Auditorium in the 214ce Plus. The new models act as an in-between model in the 200 series lineup, slotting in between the 214ce and 214ce DLX model. To accomplish this, Taylor Guitar dropped the price of the 214ce models and discontinued the 114ce and 110ce models. The plus models features gloss bodies, layered East Indian Rosewood back and sides and a solid Sitka Spruce top. One of the best new features available on these models is the new Taylor Aerocase. Effectively a hybrid case that fits between a gigbag and a hard shell case, the Aerocase fits that in-between need, much like the guitars themselves.Check out the full review of Taylor’s newest 200 series.

  • This guitar has changed from X to C bracing in newer models. Any feedback on C bracing?

  • I may just have got a lemon, the b string intonation is significantly off and the timbre of the b and e make timing tricky. Looks like just another disappointment. The only reliable way at this point seems to be a trip (possibly one or more states away) to a reputable store with a large selection and something to lose; something more like buying a dream car. This isn’t about Taylor vs. others; it’s the norm.

  • One thing about the Plus that makes me glad I went for the plain ole 214 is the satin finish photographs better. The gloss reflects a lot of light and be distracting when I make videos.

  • Does Anybody Really care about the case ? Wanna know about the instrument dude !

  • Why do you guys never plug these things in? Not everyone is gonna sit on the couch and play unplugged. I'm looking for info on gigging guitars. This video and hundreds more just like it give no indication of how these things sound plugged in.

  • I think the 214 dlx is actually the best. The hard case and better finish etc is easily worth the extra $150.

  • Yeah, that sucks. The 114ce was the bang for the buck for under $1000 and much better than the 214ce. Cant believe it was discontinued. I bought a PRS SE A50E instead.

  • Love your videos! I learnt a lot about acoustic guitars and Taylor thanks to you. I ended up buying a 214ce rosewood because I loved it's sound and price.

  • My 214ce, my Martin, Seagull and my Blueridge were recently stolen from my house. Im still crying over my Taylor.

  • You didn't plug it into an amp. I've been reading that the preamp output is lower than other electric-acoustics. Any comments/solutions to that issue?

  • I have a couple-of-years old 214ce w/layered Koa back and sides (2018).

Love it. Clear, even sound. Extremely well balanced, and very, very stable. Really stays in tune.

    Great instruments.

  • Please do a comparison of a gibson g 45 and a epiphone j45 .
Love the way you demo and compare ! Thank you.

  • I bought a 214CE and found while I liked the guitar, it had a faulty B string sound..(open string sound Im talking about – fretted was fine ) .It went to the luthier who could see/ hear the problem, but could not solve it. The sound of the string went "dung" for the want of a better word, it would not ring true. I have since returned the guitar and had another 2 x of the same model to choose from – one was worse, one was slightly better – and I have taken that one home but playing it, it still has the same "dungy" sounding B string. So, Im thinking is this a common fault with this model ? Anyone else have the same issue ? I have reached a point where I am returning the guitar for a 314CE which I find does not exhibit the fault. Shame really, I liked the first 214 I had, a Koa model but a bad sounding B string just doesnt cut it for a guitar sold for $2000 here in NZ

  • Chris I need your personal recommendation, Taylor 214ce plus or Gibson G-45 Standard. I’m a singer/strummer

  • I have noticed no one seems to play these cutout guitars in the lower register during reviews. What's the point of showing off a cutout guitar then?

  • If we don't care about the case or about gloss visually at all, is it worth the extra few hundoes, sound-wise / playability-wise , to get the plus instead of just the 214CE? What about vs the deluxe?

  • Makin' way too much about gig bags and other misc. Very "robust"?!!! focus on the instrument. I'll bring the kazoo!!!! Goddamn!!

  • I picked up and acoustic the other day and was extremely surprised at how light it was. I play an electric guitar and my Schecter is pretty heavy. So I was surprised when the Taylor I picked up weighted nothing in comparison. I was expecting acoustics to have some weight to them.

  • Does the 214 ce come with a adjustable truss rod for action adjustments? Thought I read that somewhere. Thanks
