Are you hitting it at a natural harmonic node? Just thinking it out… yeah I think you have to. The string will go berserk and smack the neck if you hit it at a point of high amplitude. Only the nodes huh…

We had a great thread on talkbass about the "correct technique" debate…
While I agree there is no wrong way, there's definitely ways they are more efficient than others. I would also argue that Flea's slap technique is extremely limiting. It works for him but you couldn't use that to play, say, Power. So learning "proper" thumb technique at the start will give you more options in the future.

I’m more of a thumb down, feels natural to me. Still sloppy when I do slap( well at least that’s how I hear it) the issue for me is the ghost note, how to fit them in and make it flow, I know there’s a learning curve and I just gotta stick with it but it gets frustrating at times
