  • How about Shin’s dumbloid? Although it is so expensive, I don’t like the dumble sound so I sold them.

  • Custom tones ethos ended up my favorite over the others I’ve tried or owned, zen drive….. that said, I think most sound really great.

  • I sold my original Zendrive when I was skint, which I constantly regret. I bought a Lovepedal version which is ok but doesn’t have the warm sizzle…

  • Well nice playing— you did that “thing” quite alot!!
Love the dude too- tonnes of level

  • The Honey Bee ODS, because it is an actual tube preamp with clean & dirty channels, Vox Silk Drive, has a tube, 3 band EQ & better than any iteration of Zen Drive because it’s so amplike, and the Barber Small Fry, no tube but has variable compression and therefore does more than the BUSS.

  • Great video head to toe but the very last point about the bridge pickup might be the most valuable piece of insight/ clue as to getting THAT dumble sound we all know and love.

  • I don’t know if it’s the most accurate since I’ve never played a real Dumble, but the Dumble pedal that sounds the best to me is the Vertex SSS-SRV (for the Steel String Singer tone) and the Ultra Phonix (for ODS tone). But I do like the Zen Drive as well, and the Shin pedals are amazing, but crazy expensive.

  • Well I have Royal Overdrive and Blackbird tube pre amp on my pedal board. To my humble ears, Blackbird in which two real tubes are mounted on is more and better sound in the realm of Dumble territory. Royal Overdrive shines when you dialed in properly to your specific amp otherwise it sounds not in its way. Anyway thanks to this video.

  • John have you ever reviewed the synergy amp module system? The OS module is very cool.

  • I'll add Cornerstone Gladio Dual Preamp and Gladio SC, two really great pedals and the most amp-like thru my IEMs!! The SC is my "always on" and the Dual Preamp is off board for the moment. Emilio and his team make amazing pedals. I used the UA Enigmatic on my recent EP for slide and it sounds amazing ???????? The Unobtanium Raw looks/sounds like a great pedal in the "D Style" category however not tried one myself.

  • Glad you showed the Joyo Taichi. Clone, copy, in the style of… it’s yet another “dumble”.

  • You haven't tried the Peace Hill Dumble pedals. So until you try those you are missing out.

  • I owned an original Zen Drive and I didn't like it. I also played Robben's blonde ODS and I didn't like that either. It was ok but to be honest I heard him sound the same using an overdrive pedal through a Fender Super Reverb. The fact that people are paying $350,000 US for a Dumble is insane. I've heard YouTube videos of Bludotones (Larry Carlton uses one) and I think they sound better are quite a bit cheaper but still expensive considering all the 'boutique' builders out there plus I heard there is a 2 year wait to get one. Personally I think you sound better on the modelers.

  • I have had an original Zendrive for 20 years and it is really the only overdrive I use. I have flirted with others but always come back to the Zen. I have only seen Robben play once and he was using a Zendrive into a Super Reverb. I took a note of his settings which were Volume, Gain and Voice all at 12 O'Clock and Tone at 5 O'Clock. Of course as he has said himself it can change according to which guitar/amp he is using and also the venue.
