Jamming by ear on guitar could be a great way to solo and improvise with others, or to also practice new licks. In this guitar lesson, Gary will show you an easy and simple way to use your ear to identify which notes work best with a jam track.

In this lesson, we’ll use a guitar jam track from Guitartricks.com Full Access, and try and play along with it. A great way to play along with a jam track is to hum the tune to get a feel for the rhythm. Finally, to start playing notes that sound good with the track, you can simply play notes that sound similar to the track, and listen to what sounds good to your ears, or bad. And most of the time you’ll be able to tell which notes sound good or bad.

Once you find the correct notes, you can piece together scales and identify which scales to use for a particular track. Even if the chords change, you can still even use the same scale you’ve found to play fun riffs. There’s a lot in this one, so tune in and play along!

  • This lesson deserves way more credit. Thank you so much.
I'm trying to learn bass and music theory and this was really helpful to break down the steps and start my noob jamming.

  • This is a superb channel! I have been playing guitar for years but I have never had any formal training or any instruction of any kind so I have recently been watching youtube guitar lessons so as to get a recap on some of the guitar basics that I may have missed whilst learning to play the guitar of my own volition. I have watched a bunch of different "learn guitar" channels by this point and I just stumbled upon this channel yesterday. I have already watched a bunch of these videos and they are awesome, this is the best channel that I have found so far as the teacher is superb. New sub here!

  • Thanks for this great lesson. You make it sound so simple by using the steps to build up to a starting point. I've never been interested in learning much more than I-IV-V but now I can see that learning a few more building blocks and patterns opens up much much more. You just showed me how it all fits together. ????Ding ???????? Lol. I can't wait to watch this again when I'm holding my guitar.
