  • Guys, stop fooling yourself. The difference in the sound is massive. You can’t hear it on YouTube or in the mix. Only in person. I had JR and the RG Premium. I was surprised how Premium sounded better. And now even that particular Premium sounds like a total rubbish, comparing to my other guitars.

  • People can say what they want, but the Ibanez Jem jr is my favorite guitar. I also own a Fender Strat, and as I Love my Strat, but I have to say that it is by far my favorite guitar at the moment! I'm not comparing my 2 guitars, the Strat and the Jem jr, but the Jem jr is really worth the effort. Fast neck, good action, tuning stability is amazingly amazing! Really valuable guitar!!

  • I have a 1997 jem jr. I swapped out the crappy lo-trs II off and replaced it with a low pro edge. made of basswood. Evolution pickups. It rocks.

  • The thing i woluld love to know is if a jem is worth it compared to an rg550 for example, always loved them but the price range always made me fell as if theyre unobtanium, i have an esp custom shop for about half the price by the way mr art, jatoba is basically what people used to call brazilian cherry

  • The Jem jr. definitely delivers the Steve Vai goods for a budget price. The guitar is great value from someone new to Steve Vai style of playing or a bedroom guitarist. Yet, I can understand why the Jem 7V cost significantly more than the Jem jr. It’s a firmer grip on that Steve Vai sound, the tremolo system can take more use and abuse while offering a richer longer sustain, the guitar fine tuners are easier to use and if you’re using it as a professional guitarist gigging and recording. There’s less time and money involved with set up and maintenance.

  • The sound and playability is on the guitar player, maybe is a squire or a Hartley Benton but if it’s a good guitar player amazing things can happens

  • As a habitual guitar modder, I… I might only need to replace the strap buttons (I am 16 guitars deep into the Schaller Locking Strap Buttons infrastructure)

  • Weird, I love Steve Vai. The 7V is defo the "Vai" sound – nasal combination pickup tones, smoothened top (almost no harshness in the bridge pickup sound), and a slightly dark tone. But I DO NOT LIKE THAT AS MY MAIN GUITAR. 😀 I prefer the Jr. for versatility.

  • Hi, thanks for the review! I own the JEM Junior and was considering upgrading to some DiMarzios. However, the only comparison video I found between a stock JR and one upgraded with Evolutions showed that putting the Evos in the JEMJR made it sound even thinner to me on clean tones, almost like plucking rubber bands instead of strings at some points. Is it worth upgrading to a different set like the DiMarzio Utopias, or can I simply EQ the Quantums to get them to sound like more expensive pickups?

  • WTF?… Might as well be comparing a Lamborghini body kit on a Fiero…to a Lamborghini…what are you doing Sir?

  • Many high quality wood imported from Indonesia for musical instrument from decades. And the factory in Indonesia cut the import cost for the wood that very expensive to US or Europe. The quality of the tropical wood are amazing for musical instrument. And the difference for the price tag is the cost for the pickup and the hardware.

  • The tone comparison with 7v is really helpful. Another question: how about the size, is it shorter scale for kids?

  • Glad you did a video about it, since I enjoy your videos anyway. I've been waiting on a yellow version of this guitar for a while now.

  • I love my jem jnr! I never felt like it was cheap or inferior. its very versatile and reliable. I home record with it all the time….

  • Your playing of Passion and Warfare licks across this video is amazing, I love your tone. In your fingers both guitars sounds similar. The Jem jr seems an awesome deal for non touring players who will have the margin to retune the guitar between 2 tries. Some people even swap the floyd for a gotoh one.

  • I bought a Jem Jr. a couple of months ago, it has very minor painting issues inside fretboard bolt holes, other than that, feels perfectly fine, plays great, sounds great. In my opinion upgrading pickups and tremolo system is unnecessary. Instead of that i can buy second hand V7.

  • A buddy and I just swapped a couple of our guitars. Lent him a Fender Yngwie and I've got his Jem Jr. Thought I'd look up a couple of reviews, see what I have to look forward to. Already happy about the floating bridge and 24 frets! The 21 frets on the Yngwie just annoys the hell out of me, lol!

  • I just bought a Jem Jr in White , Doing a overhaul on it , Bought Utopia pickups for it , push push volume pot , not push pull , 5 way switch 4 pole , Gotoh FR copy , and a blue/white/black marble pickguard , pickups are going to be split blue and black with black pole pieces , single will be blue with nickle poles , could not get black but I can paint them with some black enamel , the volume and tone knobs are strat style in blue with white letters. Going to get some flat black locking tuners as well. So it will have a custom Jem look , and a PIA sound. Also sending the neck off and getting it scalloped fully , with a shallow scallop on 1 to 12 and slightly deeper on 13 to 24. Probably will color the petals on the vine inlay on the regular dot positions only and just the petals a translucent blue. Might paint the claw with enamel in blue also. Whole white / blue / black setup. Should look sharp and play well I hope.

  • I have a Jem Jr and I love it. Only issue is the trem doesn't hold tuning all that great, but for what it cost it's a killer axe

  • My suggestion is what I did. JemJr ($500usd), Evolution or Utopia ($280usd for the set), Gotoh 1996t Tremolo ($150usd). Actually prefer the Gotoh/Utopia to Edge/Evolution but the 7V still has the superior neck. Theoretically you could find a used Jem7v/Tod10/PIA neck around $400-600usd but at that point you're creeping up to losing the value from a modded jemjr. Good review overall.

  • You can definitely hear that single coil sound on "The Audience Is Listening." The Jem was always on my bucket list of "must have" guitars. Hopefully one day I can get one.

  • It is cheap. Everyone of em' I have played sounded like crap, like the one you are playing..

  • I bought a yellow model (infinity pickups) earlier this year. I replaced the stock tremolo with a Gotoh 1996t and that made a large difference in the tone and sustain compared to the stock bridge. A few mods were needed, but they were minimal.
