Johnny Turnbull (Skip Bifferty, Bell + Arc, Glencoe, Ian Dury & The Blockheads) Interview (2/16/25)
Johnny Turnbull is an English guitarist and singer. He began his career playing with late 60’s pop psych band Skip Bifferty. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because I recently visited with fellow bandmember and Johnny’s long-time friend Colin Gibson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfvrTjuf6jA Post Skip Bifferty, Johnny would begin the 70’s playing in ARC, a heavy blues/prog band. After bringing in Graham Bell, the unit would be known as Bell + Arc. Next would be a stint in the early 70’s with Glencoe, a very underrated top notch prog band. The late 70’s and early 80’s would find Mr. Turnbull playing guitar in the new wave band The Planets and then begin a long association with Ian Dury & The Blockheads and The Blockheads. Over the years my guest has also played with artists and bands such as Nick Lowe, Talk Talk, Dave Stewart & The Spiritual Cowboys, Paul Young, Bob Geldof and World Party.

Blockheads, Paul Young, Talk Talk. John's a legend
fascinating career, I especially appreciate the early years (except the s$$t about the who and guinness family some of whom were close to fascists across europe). Thanks a lot
