Ktaxon Glarry 36 inch, 25.5” scale mini bass first test

Hey friends! I’m in chemo-immuno therapy and speaking is pretty tough at the moment. But I wanted to share the latest studio acquisitions with y’all. In an effort to minimize my “backpack” studio setup I got this tiny Glarry bass (Amazon description said “Ktaxon” but it’s branded “Glarry”). The stock round wounds sounded cool, but I’m a flats guy usually so threw some La Bella low tension, short scale strings on and this is the first test with that setup. TOO. MUCH. FUN. When I’m able to, I’ll get a review up.

  • That was fun, thank you. I'd like to get my hands on one of those to see what it feels like. It sounded good.

  • Thinking of getting a mini bass, since my “studio” is ridiculously cramped, to the point that if I’m not careful, I’ll knock stuff off the shelves I’m surrounded with, using my P-Bass copy, which becomes “gigantic” in that context, ha ha ha. Sorry to learn of your condition; you’ll be in my and my GF’s prayers; we’re both Jesus freaks. Cheers!

  • Great playing. Sounds terrific. Seems to be modeled on the Warwick Fortress bass, which is no bad thing.

  • something to keep in mind: this is the same scale if you were to capo a normal bass at the 5th fret. Use BEAD strings to tune this to EADG for the same feel. On the other hand, rgular strings are perfect for tenor tuning

  • Hey, can you tell me what strings would work on this please? I see the ones in the description, any others that might work?
Just ordered one. Thanks. Hope you are feeling better.

  • Maybe too that I've got a few years on me, but back the in 80s I went to GIT in Hollywood. Lot of great players and guitars from total crap to L5s to a Super 400. Too many times the good players made anything they played sound really good and the guys who bought the pricey models struggled. Not because of the guitar, because an L5 does nothing by itself, it's not magic.

I'm taken to now want to play with these cheepies as I find them to be fun and more important I have to make all the sound, not so much the gear, sort of straight in to a ok-ish solid state with an 8" speaker and a touch of built in reverb. Pretty naked! I'd contend in a mix, or even solo with a cheap pedal EQ, a cheepie comes far closer to a much more expensive guitar than it has any right to!

  • I was tempted between this the the Ibanez Mikro bass at $199, still on the fence. You make this thing sound great! Maybe it's just me, but so many of these cheap guitars, either bass or guitar, seem to go out of their way to make ugly headstocks! Can't quite figure that out. Cool body on this one though. Is this the Yellow or what they call their Burlywood? Side note, I did the chemo / surgery / chemo business with a little stage 3 thing. I know it's miserable, good thoughts your way.

  • YO MAN!! How's it going?! So good to see you. That little bass sounds amazing. Great for guitarists that can't deal with the longer scale lengths. So have you made any Lefty Blevin's yet? I am so interested in one of your builds my good man. Hope you are doing well. Thank you for the share!! God Bless You, Brother!!!
