Charitha’s decision to center the production on Kuweni stems from her embodiment of Sri Lanka’s culture and history, representing a misunderstood narrative about the island’s first female ruler, whose influence endured for centuries despite her tragic fate of betrayal and murder. The production itself is a statement of challenging established norms, reshaping perceptions of Sri Lankan music, and reintroducing contemporary interpretations of traditional Sri Lankan culture.
