So why is the Laney CUB-SUPER12 one of the best small tube amps for home use?

In short, you can drive it hard into tube saturation at low volumes!

The CUB-SUPER12 is a great-sounding boutique-style ALL-TUBE amp designed for those who want that classic tube amp sound and dynamic playing response at lower volumes. Featuring an ergonomic, straight-ahead single channel, with three band EQ plus a dynamic, footswitchable BOOST function, the CUB-SUPER12 tube amp is a 15-watt valve amp that can be attenuated to less than 1 watt, giving you that lush breakup and pleasing harmonic distortion at bedroom friendly levels. The CUB-SUPER12 features a footswitchable on-board reverb powered by the highly acclaimed spring reverb algorithm from the Black Country Custom SECRETPATH pedal, so you can enjoy one more space on your pedalboard. Loaded with a custom-designed and voiced HH 12” driver the CUB-SUPER12 delivers 15 watts of pure CLASS AB tube and features the ability to be run at 1 Watt by plugging into the 1 Watt input – ideal for smaller gigs or recording at home. The CUB-SUPER12 is loaded with 3 hand-selected 12AX7 tubes in the preamp and a pair of EL84 output tubes in the output section so you get that beautifully vintage-voiced tube amp sound akin to your favourite British hard rock bands. The CUB-SUPER12 is also loaded with an insert-style FX loop and external speaker socket, so you can run your delay pedals and modulation pedals clean, while expanding the sonic power of the amp with an additional speaker cab.

If you want lush valve amp tones at a manageable volume for stage, studio and home, the CUB-Super12 is one of the best small tube amps for home use and best amps for apartments as they;re entirely portable, and can easily play small gigs while providing exceptional tone for recording in the studio.

  • no one seems to have answers for me. can this be used with the cub 12 cabinet and do they match in size so the combo sits on the speaker. plus, when you plug in the speaker does it make it a 2 x 12 or does it switch off the internal speaker ( as per headphones ) forgive my ignorance on that one. Not seen any tests at all using this with an ext. speaker. any help much appreciated.

  • Really interested in getting one of these, what’re the advantages of this over a regular Laney Cub 12?

  • Here are my two cents:
I have tried A LOT speakers in this amp, modern and originals.

For clean jazz tone the legend L 1218 is the best I have tried so far in it.
A 16 ohmed G12T75 modern takes out the low mids so makes it sound very sparkly and fendery- good if you want to.
A vintage V30 that had a dense steely tone- good for slide guitar.
Greenbacks sound very woody, but are not my top choice.
G1265- similar to the stock HH 1265 in many ways, very nice.
The best was an EVM12L, original, in a thiele cab.
And the best overall was an Eminence 16 ohm Lady Luck- unbelievable speaker.
So good it make me email Eminence to ask for similar contemporary speakers of them (lady lauck is an OEM Emily speaker) and they informed me that their currently produced equivalents are the CV 75/ 65, Reignmaker, Governor and Legend L1275recommended- and they are correct, you may go with any of these!!!

From Celestions for this amp I recommend:
    Alnico blue, gold, cream, ruby.
    G12H anniversary- not the Heritage.
    Any Creamback, especially the H75.
V type first, A type second.
    G1265/ T75.
    70-80/ G12P80.

From Eminence those I mentioned first plus the GA SC64 plus many others.

    From Jensen C12N, K2, P12.
This amp packs a lot of punchiness, boominess and low mids due to circuit design and small enclosure so you may need to compensate for that with the speaker choices.
It is a GREAT amp, totally recommended.

  • Sounds cool. I have a regular 12R I dig, it has a "tone" knob though. This one ditches the tone knob but has the boost instead.

Is the Super 12 or regular 12R fx loop buffered?

  • DoLaney have a straight up comparison of the 10 and 12 anywhere? I really want to know if I could get away with the 10 or if I’ll need to save more for the 12. I play a late 50s Magnatone 213a 12, and I need a reliable replacement for gigs. I really love the tone and look if these ones, and the (red!) boost inclusion clinches it for me. I waste too much time trying to figure out external boosts.
