  • … Very original idea what you are doing… but why did you choose the DGDGcd tuning (inspired as you say by the tuning of the 5-string banjo), when it would have been possible to keep as for banjo's tuning : DGDGbd ?…
Please enlighten me on the relevance of your decision to choose the DGDGcd ?
    Thank You by advance… Regards

  • Claw hammer is a lame idea. I’ve played clawhammer for 30 years but there’s too much tension on guitar to make it relevant. !

  • Recently saw Molly in person. I've never seen someone's hand move so fast while she was playing. So much fun to watch and one of the best shows I've been to.

  • I recall playing with a similar technique years ago, just doing a sort of fingers-only strum on the guitar. Now that I’m learning to play clawhammer banjo… I’ll have to give this a try….

  • I learned this in 1970 from Stefan Grossman's first major booklet on guitar solo. Same tuning. Also had Miss McLeod's Reel and Pigtown Fling in modified tunings.

  • retuned my guitar ok, good so far, did the bum didy bit ok, then…..that was disappointing, I just saw someone showing off rather than teaching.

  • Roscoe Holcomb played the guitar like a banjo in that same 'mountain minor' tuning…check him out …he is an American treasure!! So is Molly Tuttle!
I have used that tuning on both guitar and banjo, but usually play 3-finger style rather than frailing. It can evoke spooky and mysterious feelings,

  • forget the melody, I'm probavly going to spend the next year just figuring out the "bum-diddy" thing ????

  • I was wondering if you could do clawhammer on guitar tried before and it didn't sound great
Edit: i thought you might have to tune to an open tuning which is partially why i assumed it didn't sound good and also why i just stick to my banjo for clawhammer lol

  • Love this. She's always been a highly regarded player imo. Love that she got insight into this. Its basically the bass note at the last note before starting all over agsin.

  • Noise gating? Nah, this video is a whole ass noise gated community. This shit is so aggressive that it sounds like it alternates between ASMR and punching in your eardrums with cotton. Tune it down, you did Molly dirty on this one.

  • how to draw a horse. you make a horizontal line like this… a vertical line like so… then you draw a horse and erase the lines.

  • I'd never heard of that style of guitar playing before, which is amazing being that it's a logical extension of a well known banjo style. And it suits Molly's open and less rigid virtuosity. Cool video.
