  • Time and time again when someone picks up a G&L for the first time it becomes their favorite bass

  • Loving these “Need a rig in a hurry” videos.

I’m starting to warm to Mark Bass as an amp option. The Sire Jazz bass was lovely. And think that am getting used to the headstock certainly in Jazz Bass format.

I’ve always rated G&L as a brand. And if decided to use 5 string again, the one there is an interesting option. It’s certainly got some versatility as far as switching options are concerned. And ironically sounded more like a MusicMan than the Sterling did.

Think I’d be torn between the Sire and G&L too. I’d probably still gravitate towards the Sire Jazz as that would be more familiar ground. However that G&L did have that certain something.

Think had I lost all my gear I might well be going away with the 5 string G&L and the 4 string version of the Sire Jazz. I might choose a different Drive/Boost pedal and pay the difference.

Something that was forgotten about is a tuner pedal or clip on tuner would be an essential item to replace.

Loved this video and the previous one from CiCi and her solution.

Now very tempted to try both Amp options they came up with in each video.

Am now trying to think what I would choose as an emergency rig for under a grand….

    My Choice:

40th Anniversary Precision in the Blonde or Dakota Red. £399 (or Squier Classic Vibe 60’s)

    Ashdown Studio 15 combo £399

Zoom B3n multi fx pedal £199

  • I thought the amp had to be loud enough to gig with. No way that little thing qualifies.

  • Lee got the controls of the G&L partly wrong. He got the pickup selector and series/parllel switch correct. But he got the third switch kinda wrong as it's a Passive/Active/Active with Treble Boost switch and the active mode is more of a gain boost for volume or longer cable runs. There's only one volume knob, and the other two are bass and treble (which is the same as any other passive' bass's tone knob) and they're cut only, so they work in both passive and active. I love my G&L Tribute L-2500 (my other bass is a SBMM Ray35 and agreed that the two feel almost identical in my hands) and I find that the pointy headstock is a lot more palatable on a 3+2 configuration than the 4 in a line or 4+1.

  • I owned a L-2000 for a while. It was a very versatile and great playing instrument with great sounds. It will fit in the most situations for a bass Player.
But I like playing around with Basses, so i sold it…whatever.

  • So fantastically glad to see Lee back. More groovy playing, less metal/rock stuff! Much welcomed auditory refresh

  • "You picked the right time to get in an horrific crash" – Cici is hilarious and so genuine.

  • I think Lee made the right choice with the G&L. Sound wise it seems far more flexible than either of the other two. I would probably have gone with a different amp myself but I am not very familiar with Markbass products.

  • Funky proprietary headstock designs keep a manufacturer away from copyright violation suits.

  • I do love the sub series stingrays, but you can’t buy them online. All their necks look like an ikea table leg in the flesh, but some of them feel like them too.

Tbh the first thing I do when I shop for a bass is walk around stroking their necks like a pervert until I feel one that makes me want to pick it up and try it.
