  • For me the DC is the superior guitar… Maybe it's like the sixties when no one wanted the Les Paul standard and gibson discontinued it for 8 years. To hell will tradition give me a DC any day!

  • Yes, my first Gibson LP is a double cutaway. I've never liked the standard (regular) body until I bought a Gibson DC. It just looks alot sharper. I'm really surprised a lot people prefer a regular body.

  • I have the dc in the traditional’s color way. Mine is a 2006 with 3 knobs instead of just the two. I’ve had regular standards in the past and much prefer the double cut.

  • They both sound really good. The single seems to have a barely perceptible thicker bottom end, but overall they are pretty similar. Maybe a double cut will be a nice companion to my heavy '74 black LP Custom.

  • Hey love all your videos, especially the comparisons. I’ve been searching for a DC in that color for years. Let me know if you ever want to sell or even trade I have several high end guitars

  • to me Double Cutaway will always be one of the most tragically overlooked guitar type in the whole Gibson story line
just makes no sense to me that nowadays is such a rare guitar type since it truly felt like that natural evolution hybrid between an LP and an SG
love both guitars specially if comparing the black beauty custom Lp with the black custom SG
But i will always be much more of an SG person and that is why i adore my Black Double cut
which is very much like the one you have but with 3 Knobs (2 Volume, 1 Tone)
i think it was one of the last versions before Gibson for some STUPID LAME reason decided to stop making them
the hell Gibson? you could have been the absolute best Guitar makers of all time

  • They are both good. I recently sold my Traditional, & I bought a DC similar to the one in your video. I like the DC, because I find It more comfortable to play, & as far as the tone is concerned, the DC sounds great, either clean or distorted.

  • Both instruments sound incredible…..and this video is accurate in representation of both guitars…..the weight relief of the standard is nice for the long haul gig, and the neck is thinner….but I really prefer the traditional for that full, complete sound…..seems to have a deeper yet fuller sound to it which I believe comes from the weight of the instrument. The standard is still an incredible instrument……Les Paul's are just the best sounding electric guitar there is in my opinion…..wish I could afford one????

  • Double Cuts are making a comeback for sure. I have a Ibanez double-cut that I am really becoming fond with. Looking for a nice Les Paul DC from the 90s. They are priced right.

  • Have you done any comparisons between the chambered 2016-2017 LP DC and the solid 2020-2021 LP DC? In particular, I understand the 2020-2021 has the Gibson 60's slim-taper neck; any differences in previous versions? I understand the '58 re-issues have a chunky/thick neck; I would love to know the neck types of the flame-top DC's by their various years particularly the slim-taper necks. I had a perfect slim-taper on a 2018 ES 335 — and I am trying to get back to it — but want this LP DC. — Thanks

  • Hey Darrell! Did you ever contact Gibson to upgrade the 2015 traditional’s nut to titanium? Wondering your thoughts on the wider neck as well.

  • Traditional sounds fuller and creamy which i prefer. Dc is bright which makes it cut on the mix, both are nice guitar. Pickups played a great part for the comparison as well..

  • The double cut is such an awesome design. I would seriously save up for one if they reissued them.

  • I heard these 2016 double cuts are still a little neck heavy due to the chambered body. Anyone know if this is true?

  • Awesome video! I have been wondering how the dcs stack up to the normal lps…
Loved the tone of the dc in the mix at the 610 mark…
Any chance you might be able to remember/reveal the signal chain at that particular point?
And in what year was the dc made?

  • The two guitars were very close in sound character. The Traditional Les Paul had a small but decisive difference in that its sound was just more present IMO.

  • What kind of [white] electric guitar was used in the movie 'Rudderless' ? It has an unusual headstock shape. Could it be an earlier Kramer/Epiphone model?
