  • Both are good guitar have l have both. The stratocaster has a peculiar tone especially clean guitar very unique for church music. The Les Paul is super for uses in concerts. Both guitars are built for specific uses.

  • I always think I want a strat and I feel bummed that I don't have one, but back-to-back comparisons like this make me feel better about having a Les Paul instead. Technically, I do have a Squier Stratocaster, but it's an H/H so it's closer to a Les Paul.

In reality: I only play acoustic guitars now and any electric is more of a collectable for me.

  • The biggest difference I've noticed is that the Strat brings out the soul, while the Les Paul brings out the attitude. That's what you're going to notice about the difference between the guitars.

They're both great instruments, but if you listen to a Strat player (Hendrix, Clapton, Dave Gilmour) they go for the big emotional soulful sound, while a Les Paul player (Jimmy Page, Slash, Zakk Wylde) goes for more attitude in their playing. You can definitely get more mileage out of the Strat if you plan on playing a range of music (Jazz, Blues, Rock, Country), but nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, kicks the doors down like a Les Paul. It's the Harley-Davidson of guitars. It's loud, it's in your face, and it is also damn sexy sounding as it commands your attention.

  • can i just say the gibson les paul looks SO much better when it doesnt have that ugly plastic white wing on the side. What is that peice for and what is it called? If i could ever own a gibson les paul, i wouldnt want any plastic on it anywhere. The gibson les paul is even more beautiful from the backside where all that gorgeous wood is at. What is the function/purpose of the cutouts we see in the backside of a gibson les paul?

  • I always never liked the Stratocaster. And I always coveted a Les Paul. Then I played both and now I own a Strat. The feel, tone and the way it plays is completely what I've always wanted in a guitar.

  • crazy to me as a guitar teacher he really missed the elephant in the room. kids– here is the real deal: if you play a lp style guitar…. the strings are really high off of the body. they feel kind of tight and chimey. if you play a fender style guitar t he strings are really close to the body and they feel very slinky if that makes any sense. it is a very different feeling and he did not even touch on that. try them each out. how a guitar feels is not half the battle… it is all the battle. trust me

  • As a former Les Paul guy as I thought for decades that Les Paul's were far superior for decades I now in my 40s have reversed my decision and now favour the Strat over Les Paul's as they are fully customizable more comfortable to play and I think the bolt on neck is a much better and cheaper design than having to get your Les Paul a refret job by a luthier as with a Strat just slap on a new neck and go and not have to worry about the headstock breaking off by accident and if some dipshit glued your neck thru at the slightly wrong angle at the factory you are screwed with high action where on a bolt on just shim it to get the angle you desire, I was a Les Paul only guy for over 25 years but now I am a Strat guy for the reasons I mentioned but the Strat needs a humbucker or a hot rail style pickup in the bridge in my opinion

  • As a first electric , bought a Tokai Les Paul style guitar after trying it side by side with a fender. I've been learning acoustic for a year now, but see more progress with the electric in less than a month. I'll probably get a Stratocaster too eventually, since i now see more clearly the differences.
