Lesson of the Week for Classical Guitar
Right Hand Planting (Preparation)

The main benefits of this are: 1. Accuracy Development 2. Reflex and Speed Development 3. Articulation 4. Security or Physical Confidence. It’s also a way to work on your right hand technique rather than just play over and over. I also look at full and sequential plants for arpeggios. A great book to compliment this is: The Bible of Classical Guitar Technique by Hubert Käppel which is an amazing 245 pages of exercises and text.

  • Speaking of nervousness, which you touch on around 3:30 I believe, is there any truth to the idea that if you have just one glass of wine or one beer before performing a concert, it can hep more than it will hurt by calming the nerves and preventing nervous shaking? Just ONE! haha

  • Gostava de ter um livro dos exercícios, para a mão direita. Como posso proceder para ter o seu PDF? Gosto das suas aulas mas não apanho muita coisa porque o meu inglês é fraco. Obrigada pelas aulas.

  • what you call 'no preparation' is actually exactly the same thing as preparation, only executed faster. It feels like no preparation, but it really isn't. You can't play a note if you don't prepare in some way

  • I have a suggestion. I learned a Eddie Van Halen practice, practice when watching T V . Do nothing but the plating over and over for a 1hr show. Or more .But look to see if your hand is set right from time to time. Ive learned the hand drifts. Victory comes from the attention to simple things. ( A karate saying ).

  • So these planting techniques are mostly meant for exercising ? Do guitarists use them when they play a piece ? i hope someone can help me out ?

  • Ángel Romero does planting, so I certainly advocate planting: "“There is a formula. The fingers have to strike the string at exactly the same angle all of the time. I don’t allow them to drift. I always plant with the fingers of the right hand. The left hand has to be in a completely natural position." (shorturl.at/ftPU5). Thanks for the video!

  • When playing PIM or IM, the Guitar players experts have their pinkie (C. or. X )is curled up like a baby, which I struggle to do.
My pinkie is very upright like the Thumb.
    Is my problem common?
