Line 6 HX Stomp XL and Boss VE-500 using MIDI
As a singer-guitarist I was looking for a combination of great guitar tones with vocal harmonies and effects like reverb with some compression etc.
In this video I go over how I was able to make HX Stomp and VE-500 talk to each other while playing the guitar and performing vocals at the same time allowing me to just use one press of a footswitch to control guitar sounds and vocal harmonies. This “preset per song” + “snapshot per song section” approach is working well for me. There are other options available as the Stomp also sends automatic MIDI commands when changing snapshots, but this works for me.
Note: I use the on-device menus, but in reality both units have great software and are much easier to setup using the computer.
I found that the HX Stomp will allow me to get great tones for the money if I spend some time on learning the platform. Among vocal processors, the Boss VE-500 stands out with it’s 1st class MIDI support and that is the main reason why I chose it.
A dedicated MIDI pedal would give even more options and would keep the amount of presets to a minimum as the set lists would reside on the MIDI pedal (I guess). I’d also love to try this on a Quad Cortex, but that’s out of my budget.
I apologize for the poor video photography and audio as I don’t have the proper gear (or time) to do professional videos.

being able to layer or overdub extra vocals/guitar does make it sound more impressive. Well done.
