Long Delay or Short Delay?

Delay pedals are one of the biggest tone secret weapons for any guitarists! There are tape delays, analog delays, digital delays, reverse, delays, ducked delays, and so many more! But choosing the right delay is only the first step of the battle. Dialing in the perfect delay tone can be tricky, especially if you aren’t familiar with how these pedals work.

Today, I’m going to break down my simple step-by-step method to dial in delays for rock, pop, country, and worship. I’ll break down how to choose a delay type, how to set and adjust your repeat time using the controls or tap tempo, how to select the right subdivision for your tone, how to set the mix just right for your desired effect, how to get the effect of repeats and space without muddying up your playing, and how to fine-tune adjust your delay to get the perfect vintage, modulated echo.

Whether you are a beginner or expert guitarist, these tips will work with almost any delay pedal, so grab yours, and let’s dial in some delays!
