Mesa Boogie Blue Angel – I’ve been looking for this amp for 25 years

Purchase the presets and captures based on this amp here: https://worshiptutorials.com/product/msa-angel-tone-match-gen2-presets-and-captures/

The Blue Angel is a vintage inspired amplifier from Mesa Boogie capable of a wide variety of Fender-esque tones. Ours is a 4×10 combo, which immediately makes us think ‘Mid-60’s Super Reverb’. But the Blue Angel is capable of much more. It has the ability to run in 6V6 mode (15 watts), EL84 mode (33 watts) or Linked (38 watts). We love the EL84 mode as it tightens things up and gives the amp a bit more chime.

Table of contents:
00:00 – Brian struggles under the weight of this enormous amplifier – both physically and tonally. These are the kinds of sacrifices we make for content.

  • I also have a 4×10 Blue Angel, it's a lovely amp indeed.

What I love: use 6V6 setting, fat, single coil Strat and "swap the top" – Treble down at 10:30-11 Mid up at 1-2 o'clock. Bass and reverb to taste

    Volume at edge of breakup
Straight into the amp, no boost or OD pedals
Ride the guitar volume and pick attach to get some of the best blues tone you will ever hear.

I think I tamed mine slightly by swapping out the harsh mesa 12ax7 V1 pre-amp tube to 5751 or 12AT7s, can't remember exactly

    Enjoy

  • Sounds really good and I notice it has that legendary hiss/hum that it was known for. I'm on the fence with one in the cart so this review is very helpful.

  • I really don't like the sound of the overdrive on this amp. The clean is incredible though

  • I remember reading about this amp when it first came out in the 1990's. I said to myself "6v6 and el34's? that thing has got to sound amazing. All these years later and I have finally heard one. I was right. This amp sounds BEYOND!!! (IMO) MB's finest guitar amp!
