Mike McLean Ibanez GSR200B Bass Unboxing & Review.

My 1st video with Leo and Dan Ryan doing an unboxing and full review of a 4 string Ibanez GSR200B P/J bass. The premise of Leo and Dan’s YouTube site is the quest of finding inexpensive, entry level guitars {and now basses} that feel and perform well enough to satisfy basic professional real world requirements.

  • A great setup is very important. I had to tweak mine before I really liked it. I've had some of those basses, and the necks were "iffy". The "BOOM" control adds more of a low-mid growl.

  • No, the pickups are PASSIVE. The 9 volt battery powers the BOOM control, but the pickups are wired to the BOOM control, so you need the battery to hear the bass, as the jack completes the circuit. I've owned more than a few of those basses, and STILL use one today.

  • I just ordered the GSR 200 in Sunburst red. I can hardly wait to try it out. Thank you for the great video and demo of this bass. You guys play awesome. If you ever need someone to play drums, just let me know.. ????

  • I have a 5-string variant of this bass. These basses don't ship with a battery installed, that's why the "Boom" knob wasn't doing anything. You need to add your own battery.

  • Great player, really well informed. The BOOM knob is a bass boost, which essentially is an active preamp. I don’t like it, I feel it muddies up the sound. I understand it is an entry level instrument. You can disconnect it and the pickups will work without the battery, they are passive pickups -it is just an active preamp.

  • I've been using Ibanez instruments for about 27 years. Always a fan. Always enjoyed the sound and how well they play, especially the 6-string bass I use for a while at church. The necks are perfect for my short fingers. I've always had fun with it.

  • Great job on the review Mike. This seems eerily similar to a dejavu moment. But I really enjoyed this ☺.
