If you want to add an extra layer of dirt to your guitar sound then you need to explore the world of drive pedals, and there are a few different flavours to consider. Most commonly you’ll be looking at boost, overdrive, distortion and fuzz. Each one adds a different layer of filth to your guitar sound.
Boost does exactly what it sounds like. It boosts the signal from your guitar, thus driving the front of your amp harder, allowing your riffs and solos to really push through the mix.
Overdrive is designed to hit the front of your amp harder still, whilst still maintaining the character of your guitar’s tone. Overdrive is typically used in classic rock and blues styles.
Distortion has a harder, more aggressive sound, found more commonly in metal, hard rock and punk.
Fuzz is neither subtle, nor is it polite, but it does offer gain in spades and has been used to devastating effect since the birth of rock.

My FZ 5 does not sound like that, it sounds more like a brick flying through a window , which is often where I'd like to throw it………….

This is the fifth video I'm watching on the subject. I commend this one for being brief and not wasting time. Unfortunately, it's still more of a demonstration than an explanation.
I know how these things sound and what they're used for. I want to know how they work. What exactly does an overdrive pedal do differently than a distortion pedal, and why does fuzz sound different yet? Show me waveforms, frequency analyzers, circuit diagrams. Explain why anyone would need all of these four pedals and not just one big gain knob.

I'm not a big fan of Fuzz at all, no matter what brand. But Overdrive an Distortion from BOSS are actually the best for their price

see to me fuzz is always the one i dont get. i know others love it and to each their own. but to me the fuzz pedal just sounds like it pooped itself. to put it bluntly.
