MXR Analog Chorus – Metal, Rock, and Clean Tones

You’ll not only hear the MXR Analog Chorus for clean tones, but also for rock and metal guitar tones!

**Here’s the free practice guide I mentioned towards the end of the video: https://www.jasonstallworth.com/guitarist/

I’ve been wanting a chorus pedal for a while now. So I finally broke down and picked one up!

I was at Replay Guitar Exchange doing a demo of one of their amps (that’s an awesome music store in Tampa, FL). And as I was walking out, I saw this MXR Analog Chorus pedal. It was in the used section for a really good price, so I snagged it!

Here’s the video of the amp I was demoing: https://youtu.be/5vHbnwlTGvY

Let me know what you think about these tones you’re hearing in this video! I mainly use the chorus effect for clean sounds, but I also wanted you to hear what it sounded like for rock and metal.

Because using different effects can really help you break up your songs and add more life to them!

Also, please give this video a thumbs up and share it!

Keep it Metal,
Jason

  • Hoping if i add alittle hint of chorus . Enough where it's noticeable but isnt too over the top like 80s glam. I wanna try this with my ehx triangle nano and green russian big muffs with od's so i could get that tone sounding really raw????

  • Possibly one of the best chorus pedals ever created. In your distorted part it sounded almost like a flanger ????

  • Lately, I’ve been wanting to step up my pedal game and add a few pedals to my board. This video helps a lot! Hard to come by reviews nowadays because they don’t play any metal! I have the same EVH and play ESP/LTD guitars. Thank you for making this video! Great review! ????????????????

  • Alexi Laiho always had a BOSS CH-1 Super Chorus ''ON'' to thicken his tone. From pics I have seen he all 4 buttons between 10-11 O'clock. It's not noticeable as his tone was very raw, but I suppose that it was a little too thin for his taste without it, even though he had a rhythm guitarist to double or harmonize.

  • I love how this pedal gives the tone an almost steel or metallic quality. It's the best chorus I've ever tried, and it beats every flanger or phaser I've tried. Actually, I dislike phasers; this pedal is somewhat "polite" which I like quite a lot because some chorus pedals color the tone way too much.

  • I remember that first riff you played from somewhere? what song was that or was it a random riff you made up?

Edit: I love the retro sound of the chorus with the distortion.

  • I'd just like to say, as a formal metalhead who lost a lot of his interest in the genre in recent years due to so many new bands sounding utterly interchangeable – props for being possibly the first person I've ever heard actually play something cool on a seven string instead of just undecipherable low muted chugging <3

  • Real helpful video – thanks for posting it! Great to have a rock/metal reference for how this can sound (after digging through too many ‘clean only’ demos!) Thanks!
