My All Purpose Alex Lifeson Tone Preset in Bias FX2 Guitar Software. 30 Days of Lerxst (Day 9)

Hey all! It’s Day nine here on 30 days of Lerxst and today we have a look at my Lifeson Preset in Bias FX2 guitar software. The preset that I use pretty much exclusively for dialing in my Rush tones.

I will upload this preset to the Bias FX tonecloud with the title “Alex Lifeson KDA” if you’d like to download it.

Hope you find it helpful.

Cheers, KDA

  • I also like to add the I did a guitar re-recording of subdivisions. He used a lot less overdrive for his rhythm tones than I thought.

  • Kelly, as a Rush/Lifeson fan since 1976, I've thoroughly enjoyed going through this video series and watching your painstakingly accurate representation of Alex's highlights, riffs and solos. I'm a bit older, so stage playing and home amps aren't really in my present or future. I've most recently purchased bias fx and was thrilled to come across your videos and tone setting overviews. I've downloaded your shared "Alex Lifeson KDA." Have you considered making available all your tones used to create this 30-day series? I'd be very interested. Thanks for the great work!! (A backing track link library would also be sweet, but now I'm getting greedy)

  • I'm busy right now trying to get Alex's early sounds, up to Signals/GuP.
Alex later switched to Strats, than HR, and LP's, but I'm relying on my ES355 in white to capture as much of that sound as I can manage.
I love the frigid tones of Grace, but not sure how to recreate them!
Excited to try. As a bass player, these strings are freaking skinny as shit!! Bug adjustment

  • The timing is incredible, as I just bought @$600 in new pedals and from your mention of the MXR Stereo Chorus i thought I'd add that to my list. But than I looked into the program you use for modeling sounds.
Why do I have real amp, real pedals and a real guitar again?
1 good effects pedal can by $150, and this program costs about half?
    I find this very unsettling!!
Can I jam with others using this program? Do I just carry a laptop to rehearsal?
I know I sound like I'm from the 90's, but, in reality I played the bass in a Rush cover band back in 82-85 or so. I try to stay current, so I'm getting closer.
This does look fascinating, but I'm not an apple guy, so how is it with windows?

  • Great video. We are always chasing his tones. I heard rumors that Alex was working with a company to design his own FX Pedals! Maybe we’ll get one that nails The Spirit of Radio flange?

  • How do you turn pedals on and off while playing, I have a midi foot switch but having big difficulties setting it up with Reaper DAW and Bias..

  • This is EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!!! I have positive grid software, this is HUGE for me! ❤️❤️❤️

  • You should try Neural Amp Modeler software. It absolutely kicks ass, especially for high gain tones. It blows out of the water all the traditional amp sims.

  • Very useful, a question I wanted to ask you. I practice on a Spark Amp 40, I am quite close to Alex's tone, but I will definitely fine-tune it according to your preset. I thank you Sir.

  • Do you have pickup preferences? I have these spread around, 498, 57 classic, tone zone, 59/custom hybrid, Seth Lover, 36th anniv, and AT-1.
