My SECOND FAVORITE cheap electric guitar: Yamaha Pacifica PAC112V “Stratocaster style” review & demo

I bought this Yamaha Pacifica PAC112V brand new for $201.49 + tax. The regular price is $309.99 + tax. Crazy, huh?

This particular Pacifica is made in Indonesia, has 2 single coil pickups, 1 humbucker pickup with coil splitting, one volume control, one tone control, a tremolo wiggle stick, and 22 frets. Heyoooooo you get it, you can look up all these basics at your favorite retailer. What am I giving you here? Insights … the truth … CONTENT, baby!

If you’re thinking about getting a Fender Squier Stratocaster (Bullet or Affinity series) I’d think again. Bullet doesn’t hold a candle to the Yamaha PAC112V, and as for the Affinity, well, it depends. I think the PAC112V is better, but I do like my Affinity strat (review here: https://youtu.be/EKUxy_QnANs) after doing a full setup.

So yeah, I like the PAC112V. (Besides that cumbersome name, but Yamaha isn’t the only brand that doesn’t know how to give guitars names.) Why do I like it? Because not only is Yamaha’s quality control top notch (I didn’t have to do anything to this guitar except set the intonation!), but it’s a good sounding guitar that plays well. What more can you ask for? No seriously, WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR?

Anyway, it’s not all peaches and pilsners. There’s at least one thing I don’t like with the PAC112V. But you’re gonna have to watch the video to find out. 😉

  • I've considered a Pacifica for a long time now but in the 'M' maple neck version. I wonder if anyone has tried or reviewed the maple neck version?

  • Wow, I'm impressed that despite the time, the Yamaha Pacifica 112V guitar is still an excellent option. I love the one I have in sonic blue for its color, sound, versatility and quality. More than perfect to start and play even live. Greetings from Guatemala. ????????????????????????

  • I’m currently choosing between pac112v and pac311h and I don’t know which one is gonna be better, 311h has p90 but lacks tremolo.

  • I put a 470k ohm resistor on the single coils so the they see 250k instead of 500k I found it made the single coils less shrill.
But to each his own they are great guitars regardless of the cost.

  • If you're out there gigging in small spots, no one will know this was a relatively inexpensive guitar. Stick with it.

  • I've had this guitar for a few years and I still use it. The only thing I did change was the bridge because the original had that thin cheap block, and I swapped the humbucker for a high output SD because of personal preference and I found the humbucker kind of "anemic". The tuners are OK, as long as the guitar is properly string it will not go out of tune easily. Fantastic instrument! I see no reason not to use it for recording or even live shows, it's definitely a very solid guitar.

  • Hello! I have been planning to buy this guitar for its versatality. I listen to music of the likes of Porcupine Tree, Opeth Pink Floyd etc. Do you suggest any other cheap versatile guitar that is a little more towards heavy sounding side?

  • I have the violin burst color of the PAC112V but now wish I had bought the blue color version….nonetheless, I love it. Great beginner guitar for anyone looking to learn to play.
