A few years back I did a video talking about my top 5 favorite amp models in the Helix/HX Stomp. Since then, we have received many new amp models with several firmware updates, so I figured it was time for a new video looking at what my current favorite amp models are. I really hope you enjoy the video…

  • That was pretty useful. I plugged a good pair of cans into my iPad and closed my eyes. I run a UA Dream 65 right now, which I have full faith in. Impetus for a helix would be to experiment with high gain. I think there might currently be a vibe around the helix that doesn’t inspire as much confidence over newer models. Your video helped me see if this is unfounded. Conclusion, I’m not sold but I’m definitely interested. It’s tough to control all the variables. I really want to a/b test devices with my own guitar. Confidence is a weird thing. If you’ve heard a lot of people take the piss out of something it’s hard to put that aside and make your own judgement.

  • Just new to the stomp world, my fave amp models atm would be the Marshall JTM45 & the Placater Dirty model. Also have a soft spot for the Princess

  • Great video and thanks for taking the time to make it Jason. Plus, lovely playing Jason. You've definitely got the chops… And for the record, it was hearing Alex Lifeson and 2112 when at high school that made me start playing the guitar aged about 12.. ????

  • Hi Jason, do you know why i can't buy your presets from the Line 6 Shop? In the billing adress I can`t choose the country "Germany " ????…. mmm

  • So many great amp models in the Helix, but I keep going back to the Mandarin Rocker. Just love the way it plays.

  • Wow Jason killer playing on that outro song. I still need to buy all your CDs/FLAC song files…. Keep it up. Love all you do.

  • Cranking up the amp level and turning down the speaker level really gives some warmth also. Might want a boost at the end of the chain.

  • The Jazz Rivet 120 has been a favorite for Cleans. Matchstick Ch1, Grammatico GSG,, Elmsley, Brit 2203,, Placater, Archetype, Ventoux, ete., are some of my go to Models. There are so many Amp Models. I'm always trying to get something that captures the authentic sound of the Amp and what I think sounds best for that Model.

  • that was awesome man thanks for sharing! can you do a video to get modern metal sounds from helix?

  • Damn, I like ribbon mics, but with a pair of other brighter ones. 57 for example.
But hearing JUST ribbon made me want to throw EQ after that to brighten it up, so it can cut in a mix. Because that dark type of tone is suitable in jazz, not it high gain stuff, IMO.

  • Here's a challenge for you. Develop a Helix profile that is super deep and clean on the bottom end but has some smooth gain on the top end for leads.

  • Awesome stuff Jason as always. I think people are sleeping on the Line 6 Litigator though! For my "dirty" I've got that with an AC30 IR and it can do everything. Put some chorus on and go to a middle pickup and play lighter and you've got clean, add a distortion pedal in the chain and boost the gain and you've got super dirt, etc etc. What I absolutely LOVE about the HX/Helix universe is the opportunity to mix and match various things in order to maybe achieve a sound that you never even thought was possible with a specific amp.

  • Great choice of amps. But I think we really want to hear you rip through Rush tunes on the beauty of a Lerxst amp back there.
