Neural DSP Tone King imperial – This Has Changed My Mind.

In today’s video, I look at the Tone King Imperial MKII plugin from Neural DSP.
This plugin is a faithful recreation of the fantastic Imperial MK11 Amp from Tone King. This amp sim plugging has changed my mind on how great Amp Sims can be! Top Job Neural DSP.

Here is what Neural DSP say about the Tone King Imperial MKII Plugin.

Balancing iconic vintage characteristics and innovation is a paradox very few can reconcile. Tone King is one of the most remarkable examples of this in the world of tube amplifiers. It is packed with gorgeous clean and crunch tones reminiscent of the most iconic era. However, it also comprises unique features like its built-in reactive attenuator – all painstakingly modeled to replicate every sonic nuance.

This amplifier was designed to delight and inspire, and we are proud to present the Tone King Imperial MKII Suite.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

  • are all of those pedal effects (reverb chorous, delay, overdrive etc..) exist in the this amp plugin as a package? or do I buy them separately? new to these..

  • HOW

DO you record the audio as quick time screen capture showing the amp demo has no audio ?

    Signal chain ?

    Thanks

  • This is the first "aged" guitar, which I find beautiful in its own way …. As for Neural DSP – I will not touch their SW, as long as they use iLok for copy protection …..

  • in my studio the amp sound very dull with the same presets, i have a mayones guitar and rme ff400 interface plugged directly to the interface and gains are at good level. anything else im missing here to improve the tone? DI box? different sound card? Thanks

  • Hi Paul, do you have a pair of studio monitors that you could recommend for home use in a medium sized bedroom? Yamaha HS5? HS8? Something else?

  • Killer playing man, great review too. I downloaded the trial tonight and was very impressed with it too. Especially for the $ and compared to lots of other stuff out there which masks the guitars natural sound

  • Just wondering what you are plugging this guitar into to get the direct signal into your DAW? Sounds amazing!! I'm trying out the Soldano Neural Plug-in and was playing through my Boss Waza TAE…. Super noisy. Looking for the best and cleanest way to get my guitar into Pro Tools… just a good DI? Thanks so much for all the great vids and info

  • A like and a subscribe. A great video that helped me get better tones from this plugin. I have other plugins that I can't get to sound this good. I played my strat and tele and figured out what you were playing and what nice tone. So glad I bought this Tone King. Like you I'm not sponsored and this is a true recommendation. Thanks again.

  • Video much appreciated. Quick question thoough: How do you keep noise from your PC rig so low in your recordings? I find my single coils attract all kinds of interference when recording within 10 feet or so of my rig.

  • I have the real amp and the plugin. I am crazily enjoying the plugin more…it compresses/sags more than the real amp at same settings (even with respective attenuators off)…..making me wonder if I've got a tube issue….I just ordered a 5y3 rectifier tube to hopefully get me the sag I'm seeking…

  • While I’m waiting for my real Tone King MK2 to come in next weekend. I downloaded this to get me over till then. Wow, sounds really great and gives me ideas. And set points for when I get my real one! I went through a lot new Reissue Fender tube amps…horrible issues and quality build. So spring for the Tone King! I saw this plug-in way after I purchased one. But very cool stuff!

But anyone looking to really buy one…tel er this plugin has pedals, effects and a master eq. So a real one you may have cool pedals…but it won’t be stereo and there is no master EQ. The master EQ allows the plugin to be a little more high gain metal. The actual amp sounds just as good from medium to hard gain…but the real deal is not something you want to put a plexi style or metal zone through! It has some crisp highs that without a master eq,..like the plugin would just shrill

  • What is it with all the compression??? The sounds do not sound real at all. Buy a tube amp and an sm57…I bought this and immediately asked for a refund. Neural DSP will not refund your money…

  • Hi! How can I get this neural dsp plugin? What rigs do I need to play with my guitar? Thank you.

  • I don't know, man. I've downloaded it and tried it. I'm coming from S-Gear and my impression is that it's kind of flatter and less reactive than S-Gear. Of course we're all subjective here. Nice video. Keep up the good work and looking forward to a review of the UA Dream 65 which I haven't tested myself, but which might be a step up from these already good plugins.

  • Great demo. I notice no hum on those single coils. I get hum on both my Strat and Tele when using this plugin (and others), and it's pretty evident in a recording. How have you overcome this?

  • Superb tones. These plugins for clean/edge of breakup are getting better and better – and this Imperial MKII sounds awesome. While crunch/heavy tones were always easy to find in many plugins, it was always the clean and break-up tones that severely let the vast majority down – you couldn't use them at the front of a mix, and certainly not on their own. Neural DSP have really excelled here.

I wonder, have you tried the S-Gear 2 plugin by Shuffham Amps? – how do the cleans/breakups compare?

  • I tried it and it was nice, but I really feel that S-Gear is still the better sounding amp sim and more versatile tones. My 2¢. Btw, great channel! new subscriber. 🙂
