The Player II version of Fender’s legendary Telecaster showcases value-packed upgrades and increased comfort for gigging musicians, singer-songwriters, home-studio creators and more. Playability has been improved with a rosewood (rather than pau ferro, as on the 2018 Player series model) or maple fingerboard with super-smooth rolled edges. Tuning ease and integrity are enhanced with Fender ClassicGear tuning machines with a precise 18:1 gear ratio. The wow factor gets a boost with timeless Fender finishes, as well as new, vintage-inspired colors never-before-seen on production models. The Player II Telecaster also features an alder body, modern C-shape neck, 22 medium-jumbo frets, Alnico V Tele single-coils and a six-saddle string-through-body bridge.

“The cultural significance of the Telecaster is massive,” says jazz guitarist and former prodigy (he was the subject of a music documentary at eight years old, played the Grammy Awards at 12 and became a faculty member of the Stanford Jazz Workshop at 15) Julian Lage. “One of my gods is Jimmy Bryant—an early adopter of the Telecaster—and his touch, tone, facility and conception on this instrument is everything I associate with the modern jazz guitar player. Because the Tele is a solidbody, the expressiveness and nuance of everything I play goes directly to the pickups. That was a big win as the Telecaster dug me deeper into the world of jazz. The Player II Telecaster speaks to what I like about all Telecasters—something that’s balanced and comfortable to play, and that has the right tonal ratio between attack and a blooming warmth.”

Just like the Player II Stratocaster, the Player II Telecaster is available in chambered ash and chambered mahogany versions.

  • I prefer a Strat over a tally. Although you have a beautiful guitar I just like guitars I think they’re cool. I live in Southern California. I’ve always loved music most of my life. The first time I picked up a guitar was in 1974. I am a melodic Solo instrumental guitarist I love music dearly. I didn’t take any shortcuts I actually learned how to read music and tablature. Don’t care too much for a jazz but I love the sounds of the 60s and 70s. So I’ve learned how to play all of the songs I love to listen to when I was young. I’m 71 years old now and I love guitar I love to learn things about it thanks for your video I thought it was very interesting have a great day????????????????????

  • Julian Lage could play a stick with six tennis strings stretched across it and it would sounds like art

  • This is the only Guitar Center demo I've watched all the way through. And I've saved it to watch again later!

  • For me Julian is the guy who is making "jazz" accessible to a new generation of listeners. He brings melody back where it belongs; front and center.

  • Great video but I’m confused. I don’t see where that color/pick guard combo is being offered on these new guitars. Am I wrong?

  • If that guy ever gets tired of working at guitar center he probably has a good career as a musician ahead of him!

  • How do the Player II pickups compare to earlier Tele Player or Squire Alnico 5 pickups?

  • This is going to sell a boatload of Telecasters. It's funny; he's using many of the same terms you hear in so many other guitar demos, but you can tell this comes right from him – consistent with any interview or live show commentary I've seen.

  • I used to thing tone is 80% on the fingers, but after Lage performance. The player 2 tone is really trivial even with the Julian Lage expert skill. His tone on nachocaster or old Fender one is night and day to this Player 2, not sure how many percentage of the contribution by the amp settings.

I have played Player 1 several times and i was not impressed, just like this one, dry and thin.
The fender vintera 1 road worn has much more thicker, more mid range and more sweet than this.

  • i didnt expect to sit through a 15 minute GC demo video.. but for what ever reason, Julian Lage's marketing team has him everywhere right now.. so I absolutely sat through this master class of a demo video.

  • between Julian and Ted Greene the Tele has proven to be maybe the most emotive electric guitar, it just hits a depth like nothing else. He is a nat'l treasure
