New Gear: Winyard, “The Rev”, Reverse-body Custom-built Bass

UK company reveals “The Rev”, Reverse-body Custom-built Bass

English guitar and bass manufacturer Winyard has announced the latest addition to its bass product line – The Rev.

“The Rev is a clear nod to how Hendrix played a right-handed guitar left-handed, so he would get this immediately” comments Guy Lewis, Chief Mechanic at Winyard.

The reverse P Bass (P4R to give it the official workshop model number) is something Lewis has wanted to make for some time.  “Winyard has been gaining momentum with our Stealthcaster and Diamondcaster guitars, but bass players make up half the business” continues Lewis.  “I am 100% inspired by the classic designs and have applied relic techniques to achieve a level of authenticity that has grown the bass business substantially over the past two years.”

“Because all Winyards are created and built by hand, The Rev is a fully-customizable bass.  The first one off the bench is a shell pink, 4-string, with a heavy relic vibe.  I carved the neck as a Medium C, but clients can specify any shape, size and carve they wish.  Same with pickups, where a custom Winyard can be fitted with any client preference, and a wiring layout that will give them the tone in their head.  This one has a Fralin, and a Schaller 3D-4 bridge – very fine components indeed.”

“The upside-down nature of The Rev is quite a show stopper, and the reverse headstock gives it some extra mojo too.  Admittedly, access to the very highest frets is limited above fifteen, but this is clearly a bass for those that do not want to blindly follow the crowd.   It turns heads and really gets the conversation going!”
