Cool you got the 800 pedal, but when you get the time, could you please redo in another demo?
sounds kinda crappy
Disappointing. Sounds obviously okay, but falls well short of giving you instant access to the JCM tone. Great marketing spiel though. You shouldn't have to stack multiple pedals to get it to work as hoped. If you want a JCM – buy one. Their shredmaster did this a lot better 20 years ago
The sensitivity knob adds gain
First off, I am absolutely stoked that you got the pedal. As excited as you were, I would've hated for you to wait for Sweetwater to have the date pushed back again. Incidently, the DSL pedal on Sweetwater is now backordered.
Ok, JCM 800. From what I've read and understand, a real stock JCM 800 is not a high gain amp. More gain than a Plexi (Zeppelin, Deep Purple) but not like a Mesa. The JCM 800s used for metal were usually modded. It's also why guitarists would use hot pickups like a Dimarzio Super Distortion or X2N to push the front end harder. It's also why they'd use pedals (Boss SD-1, Tube Screamer, Rat, etc).
I still think you should try stacking. With the DSL on the clean channel, run your Boss SD-1 into the JCM 800 and experiment. The SD-1 should help increase the distortion with the JCM 800 providing the Marshall flavor.
If it sounds distorted turn down the volume on your end! Sorry, just realized that the amp was overpowering the mic! lol. It actually sound smoother in the room.
