NEW Ultra II Stratocaster – Classic Song Medley – Played Fingerstyle

A medley of some well-known single-coil, guitar-based songs – played on the new Fender Ultra II Stratocaster with a clean tone. The guitar in use is the SSS model in Avalanche finish with a maple fingerboard.

The entire video is played with the pickup selector in the fourth position (neck and middle). This is the pickup position I like the best for playing in this style… which is of course entirely subjective! The S1 switch is not compressed.

The guitar is being played through a Blackstar HT-5R MkIII 5W Combo on the clean channel. Settings wise, the tone dial is set to around 45% and the reverb is about 65%.

The sound is being recorded with a Shure SM81 mic, placed on a 45-degree angle about 3 inches from the speaker. A compressor and high pass filter (set to 45hz) were used to slightly clean up the sound post recording, but otherwise the tone is how it sounds through the amp (a relatively modest valve combo).

The songs are my own arrangements, which are similar to the parts from the original song recordings, but played at different tempos and to include some vocal melody (where applicable). ‘Lenny’ is also played in a different key, as SRV down tuned a semi-tone. The guitar was in standard tuning throughout this medley.

Th songs played are as follows:

0:00 – Hey Joe
1:02 – Under The Bridge
1:51 – Lenny
2:44 – Slow Dancing In A Burning Room
