  • What passion and what channel ! I love it.
In live show at the Great Western Forum in LA I have the impression that Kurt uses a modulation effect in the solos of serve the servants, in bloom or even where did you sleep. It's quite unusual… any idea what pedal he's using?

  • Is pat smears tone just the same tone but the volume lowered? im kinda curious as to how pat smear got his guitar tone on radiofriendly unit shifter.

  • Great video! Yep you can definitely tell when that 'swarm of bees' DOD Grunge kicks in haha.

  • 1:11 I usually think of paramount, reading and Paradiso, I usually forget that MTV unplugged is a live show because i usually listen to my cassette instead of watching the show

  • the strats wernt purely for destroying, they were generally pretuned in drop d for the encore songs in that tuning to make the changeover more simple (easy for most guitarists to go to drop d quickly but with those fender bridges it obviously effects the tuning of all 6 strings if you change just one) and ive seen footage of them used when one of the Mustang's strings snapped or was really out of tune around late 92 and 93 tours. I've also read about it and from looking myself i think they were often put together strat copy bodies and necks. You can still get very cheap strat necks that arnt made by or labelled as fender but have the exact same shape. They had a technician on tours who main job was putting back together/renting the guitars and bits of drums (rarely basses because those insanely heavy gibson things Krist used are indestructible)

  • I think pennyroyal tea sounds like ass played in a major key. It should be played minor always or else it always sucks. I hate that. Idk why he played it that way live.

  • Hey Eric, I know we spoke on the previous use of the DOD during this concert. I've come to the realisation that the DOD was probably used during Breed. You can hear it when Kurt is saying "I don't care, I don't care" whilst he's playing really high up the neck. Now, in saying that, I've also had the thought that the DOD was used on Scentless Apprentice. I don't know what it is but Kurt's tone during that song always sounded nasally to me and I'm starting to think that the DOD was used more than we think for that concert and the time he used it in general. Now, I'm not Kurt so I'm not entirely sure but I feel like Kurt may have been experimenting with his tone around this time. As we know, well at least I think we know, Kurt would often put on a front. Often saying things were a joke when they weren't. For example, In Utero. Kurt had claimed multiple times that In Utero was very impersonal but I think it's safe to say that it was far from it. I feel like he may have done the same with gear? Maybe? I don't know. I feel like Kurt genuinely wanted to give the DOD a try whilst using the "it's a joke" thing as a front before he abruptly discarded the pedal into the crowd. I'm probably off my rocker but just some food for thought maybe?

  • Do you have a link to the original live and loud footage that isn't remastered or using the "Kurt cam" like a lot of the youtube videos? Thanks

  • 22:03 Loved The Man Who Sold The World tone!! I’m curious if you would ever do a cover of the song like a studio version like what if Nirvana went into the studio and recorded it officially for an album, what would it sound like, the closest thing we ever have to it is the Unplugged Performance but, I’d be interested to hear you interpretation of what a studio version would sound like.

  • Imagine being able to say that you’ve played just contains mustang, I wish that was me

  • Idea: A Classic Sansamp clone, but without the switches (they'd be "locked" into Kurt's settings), a more practical enclosure – regular size, top-mounted, etc., and no stupid price. An In-Utero-In-A-Box.

  • How is the TOM bridge fitted to the guitar? Have you plugged/redrilled the body or are the posts loose in the holes? How did Kurt/Earnie do it?

  • You should make a video on what knockoff pedals work best for the sansamp sound and the pollychorus and echoflanger! Like what the cheapest knockoffs are that sound closest to the real deal but for us people who cant afford the real pedals

  • Dumb question, are you fretting your middle finger when doing the power chords? Because when playing the first power chord even though your other fingers are on the fattest three strings, it looks like you strum the middle two strings afterwards.

  • Why is it that every picture of Krist playing even if he’s only in the background of the photo, that he always has an expression on his face that makes it look like he’s playing the absolute funkiest thing on the planet. Inhuman levels of funk.

  • Hi!! It was briefly mentioned but can we get an in-depth of your Stratocaster modeled after Buddy Hollys? He’s one of my favorite singers and guitarist and I would like to know! Thank you!

  • These recreations never cease to amaze, man, I still have a lot of respect for the research you do and I’m definitely gonna check out this concert because I’ve always wanted to see it but never got around to it. Great as always, msn, keep it up

  • Which looper pedal do you use? Mine struggles with high gain without getting really muddy but yours sounded awesome!

  • For Blew, may I know the knob settings (volume and tone) and switch position of the Strat?

  • Oof, the DOD Grunge pedal is so painfully ice-picky.
I always heard he incorporated it just as a joke on the name, but who knows.

  • tbh it's amazing to me how u make all these tones with the twin reverb. I would bet that with today's PA if kurt was alive he would probably be playing some small shows with a micd up twin reverb

  • Sounds better than ever! I think you should replace the neck to only just have fender logo on it. It will be more accurate(if it isn't enough already).
