We all know the Nobels ODR-1 these days. An amazing transparent and sparkly overdrive pedal, it was long the secret weapon of the Nashville session pros – but now it’s gained mass acceptance, and the ODR-1 is a staple on pedalboards across the globe and in every conceivable genre of music.

Nobels recently launched the newest ODR-1 pedals – the fully-sized ODR-1X, and its smaller sibling, the ODR-mini 2.

The ODR-mini 2 takes what was great about the original ODR-mini (which was almost everything) and adds a couple of awesome extra features to make it a pedalboard must-have!

The most crucial difference is the addition of the Bass Cut knob. This handy control allows you to wind out any unwanted low end in your signal, tightening up your tone to taste when needed. This comes in extremely handy when thinning out fat-sounding humbuckers, which had a tendency to be way too boomy with the OG ODR-mini.

Alongside the standard Drive, Level and Spectrum (tone) controls, the Bass Cut knob really gives the ODR-mini 2 a whole extra level of tonal versatility compared to its predecessor, and makes it 100% usable 100% of the time.

Nobels have also updated the design of the pedal. It’s a tiny bit wider and chunkier than a standard mini pedal (like the original ODR-mini), and it also now has the black control face of the other Nobels pedals (like the new DEL-mini delay and the full-sized ODR-1 pedals) so it really feels like part of the family. Oh, and it also comes with Nobels’ handy Mounty P mounting plates as standard.

Finally, the ODR-mini 2 is true bypass, and you can also run it at 9-18v – just in case you need the extra headroom 18 volts offers!

That’s a lot of pedal for the €77 the ODR-mini 2 currently costs in Europe… but just how good is it? Is that new Bass Cut really worth it, and is it truly worth buying if you already have the ODR-1 or ODR-mini?

That’s what we’re about to find out! In this video, I put the pedal through its paces in as many different musical styles as I can, from country, folk and indie, to pop, rock, punk, metal, and more. You’ll hear single coil tones – courtesy of my Fender Telecaster – and humbucker sounds from my Epiphone Les Paul, and there’s even a loop where I shoot out the two ODR-mini pedals!

And don’t forget to check out my video where I compare the entire Nobels ODR family, including the ODR-1X, the brand new ODR-mini 2, the ODR-1 30th Anniversary Edition, and ODR-1 BC, and the original ODR-mini: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyfFRJGlRM4

My setup was as follows: I ran the ODR-mini 2 straight into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head. That went from the amp’s Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That’s it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my Boss RC-10R to play the loops.
