  • That's a cool looking guitar he uses at the beginning of the video. Does anyone know if it's a brand guitar or a custom one? (If it's a brand one, which brand/model?)

  • Fender is making much better and more versalite tume amp in Blues Junior price range – 5150 Iconic can do enything what BJ can and much much more. BJ is not simple – is primitive and it has nothing with simplisity – in practise it is extreamply hard amp to get a decent sound. The reason is becouse it demands a really hi and guitar and pedals, becouse of lack of EQ, lack od FX loop, lack of externac cab out, non intuitive controllers and in reality "fix volume" = if you want to change volume you will change the tone. Primitivity doesn't mean simplisity. Too much is too much – in both sides. 70yr old construction will not solve the problems the same as 100W 8×12, 4 channels fullstack in bedroom 😛

  • Wow, you got a Valvetronix 212 as a kid.. That's actually more than decent amp, a lot of players use it for pro work.

  • Had played poorly for about 5 years. On craptastic acoustics.
    I probably "quit playing" 4 or 5 times…..
Then my fabulous grandfather ssid: lets go get you some decent gear! Punchline: in 1971, cheap packages did not exist.
    So, bring a friend!
    Punchline part: result?
Vox Essex! With chrome trolley! Like bringing a refrigerator to a party…but, man, could that baby punch! Bass, guitar, keys! AOKl
The axe? A Mtsusomething short scale violin bass gizmo, a weird cherryish/bursty finish….lots of little emblems…..crazy buttons and knobs….kept them a long time…..

  • What a terrible amp, instead of having multiple channels you have to run jumper cable from mic input that you don't use. What were they thinking when they came up with that? Oh, I guess it's not a bug, but a feature.

  • Bravo! or in plain english "congrats" on that statement. After having a Carvin and a Marshall 100Watt tube amp i came to pretty much the same conclusion. Today, all i have is a slightly modified Fender Blues deluxe combo amp. More than enough for home playing and i can get pretty much every tone out of it if i use the right pedal. However i want to keep that pedalmania under control. Currently i have only two and don't wish to increase it by much.

  • Your parents bought you an electric guitar and an amp? You are fortunate then. Mine wanted to avoid at all cost that i get one and almost fired me from the home whenever i turned my amp on.

  • Great video! As a side note, maybe it’s the metal fan in me, but I really don’t like the sound of fuzz distortion lol

  • This amp is touted as the holy grail of tone. I bought one a few years back but never figured it out until your video. Thanks for showing me the way . . .

  • Why not get a princeton so you dont need pedals for reverb and trem? Is the cranked tone significantly different thanks Rhett

  • I couldn't agree more! I'm currently using the free Tonex app and a cheap model pack by Jason Sadites (I think it's based on a Marshall JTM45). I've ended up using ONE amp setting from that pack and then using my pedals and guitar controls to get everything from low gain Blues (BB King and Peter Green) to cleans for Reggae and more driven Led Zeppelin style tones. As you rightly said, the key is to pick something, stick to it and really get to know how it works. There are so many options out there these days that it's easy to become a casualty of paralysis from GAS overload! I also sold 6 of my guitars and now just have a Les Paul and a Strat. For what I play, this covers EVERYTHING!

  • If your budget doesn't allow for multiple amps and you need a versatile rig that can do a bit of everything, a good clean amp, like most fender amps, is definitely the way to go.

I will say though, if you want high gain metal and hard rock tones, while the right pedal with a good clean amp gets you in the ballpark, there is nothing like the dirty channel of an amp designed with that sound in mind.

  • Good stories below….When I was 16, I had to have either a Dual Showman or a Twin Reverb. I couldn't afford either one, (or carry either one for that matter). So, I ended up with a Super Reverb, It was a good amp for me for a very long time. Still have it. But of course, I have moved on to a number of others.

  • I started with a Fender Twin. Kept it for years but it was never really the right amp for me

My Mesa Mark V 25 or Hughes and Kettner GM40D would be just fine if I could only have one. I'd lean more towards the Mesa though

  • Look into the old school Laney AOR 50 watt Tube head. You'll put that amp in the DUMPSTER, after playing through the Laney.

  • How did this video get a million views ???? 5 minutes of you blabbing about your life story. Just show the amp bud

  • If you have a send & return in your amp & just want to boost the original sound, then put the boost through that. By putting it in the front of the amp you are just pushing the amp via the pre amp. ????

  • I only used one pedal and it was the boss blues driver. Thats the tone i like. Im a simple guy i like Paul Kossof and Billy Gibbons and now i really like Charlie Starr and Paul Jackson. None of these fellows really use a lot of effects. I like Budda amps and a good LPjr.
