  • in the video it would be nice if you place yourself in the picture just where you put your instrument in the mix. (git left, bass middle, second git right …)

  • Well I tried hard but I don't really get the point with compressor. I mean, I dont' get why should I get a compressor instead of a boost, which preserves dynamics and thus may not overload my preamp if I manage to play softly.

Very good video though. This is hence why I'm wondering that.

  • Thanks Mark. Another great vid for home recording newbies coming at all of this from predominately the mindset of a guitarist. Great resource.

  • Loved the video! Perhaps something worth considering for a comp-related video in the future might be showing the DAW's perspective (channel meters and/or waveforms) via overlay so the viewer can also see what the ears are hearing? Personally, I find that very informative when helping to understand exactly how the tone is being shaped by compression. TY!

  • Im here to learn. I have the new fet cali 76 and it ticks the compression box perfectly for me. But maybe there's more that I'm yet to learn from comps

  • Hi Mark, I love your videos, the production quality is outstanding! Will you do a video about the Meris Enzo X? 🙂

  • Tech note:

Mark’s Gold Top PRS Custom 22 pickups are:

    Neck: Fralin Twangmaster
    Bridge: Bare Knuckle PolyMath

The Twangmaster is Lindy Fralin’s take on putting a very bright single coil pickup in a hum canceling humbucker form factor.

The PolyMath in the bridge is BKP’s medium-ish output – very midrangey take on a hotrodded PAF type pickup. Bright punchy and savory.

  • Great video! Every time I see that Jennings bass guitar I get GAS. Unless I missed it, they announced it back in 2019 but never saw it live. Shame because that's a great sounding bass guitar.

  • This and the clean are the only two compressors on my radar but I’m leaning towards this one.
