Me: ooh! An active bass? I should look into buying one!
“It has an active/passive switch!”
Me: never mind. That means it’s gonna be expensive
It works only on expensive basses
Passive instruments have more dinamic
I will ad only one thing
Bass player on the video: They both sound great!!!
Me: Until you ran out of battery… It activate a "natural" overdrive/distortion…
Trick question! It’s subjective.
Own a sansamp and any bass sounds cool!
At the end of the day, all you need is a passive bass
active bass a lot more versatile and you will find „easier“ your sound but
passive bass way better for the mix.
I'm on fence, some active are great, but all passive are able to be dialed in as well.
Passive pickups, active eq.
Had a bass with Blackouts for a while, but couldn't use it for anything besides hard rock or metal.
These days with all the tone altering circuitry that come with even the cheap amps, the passive basses are holding their own with tonal flexibility
Active sounds compressed a bit
I have to agree i have both and prefer my jazz bass
What the fk is the difference
My sadowsky sounds nothing like that
Now a days with external pedals, amps, sound guy, a passive bass is my fav…I'm forgetful and many times my battery died. But like you I love the switch
What I like about passive basses is that you have a reliable tone as long as you have fresh strings. On the other hand with actives if you want the best sound you need both new strings and new batteries
That very little difference is the “better” part. If you can sacrifice that little extra for the versatility of an active is the question.
It should be added that active just puts the controls on your bass. If you use an amp, preamp and pedals you can get extra tones as well. Just keep a spare 9volt with you for active basses.
