  • Video makes this amp sound like a treblely thin piece of junk which in not the case. Also as someone else mentioned the 12ax7 is a phase inverter tube and not really a part of the preamp curcuit but works in conjunction with the output tubes curcuit.

  • I know this is an old video, but most of these reviews say the 12AX7 is part of the preamp. It’s not, it’s a phase splitter for the two power tubes. It’s all digital modeling preamp.

  • i did not know most of these newer amps demoed on you tube they all sound like some one talking wait that is some one talking it is supposed to be a demo of the amp not a demo of some one talking the whole time every amp i check out is like this just talk talk talk then a riff or 2 at the end we want to hear the amp not talking then if we buy we can read the book that is what it is for waste of time if there is any one who owns this amp please put out a proper demo

  • I don't know what's going on, but I'm always in the shop getting this amp repaired, in my experience it's incredibly unreliable. As we speak I'm using a substitute while my Vypyr combo is being fixed. First couple of times it was fuse/tube issues, so at least not too expensive.

  • Glitches are removed via updates. I've gigged my Vypyr 120w tube head quite a bit with no issues til I fucked up.
I was running it thru a Fender MH412a cab on 8 ohms and forgot to switch it back to 16 ohms when using it thru my 412 valveking cab. fried the output transformer. moral of the story. always check. other than that. it should never suffer any internal problems since its processing is much stronger than any other modeling amps available. except for the new model vypyrs.

  • There is not such thing as a "normal" vypyr.
Both are normal one is SS and the other is tube.
Personally after owning 3. Stick to the tube. You have far more headroom than a SS could deliver.

  • Is there a video of Tom and that backing track in the beginning of the video? That progression is awesome

  • It's a nice amp, you can get lots of cool sounds out of it. I've had one for about six months. I wouldn't gig with it though, because the downside of it is that it has a computer in it, and as such does weird tweakish things on occasion. Great for someone who wants to learn about different effects and amp types.

  • @diabeticmonkey Yeah, but look at the guitar that's plugged into. I wouldn't expect the same quality if you stuck a squier into it. It's not really matching the sound the average player is going to get when using a multi-thousand pound guitar.
