  • Notes from Jason:

One of my favourite solos of all time.

To transcribe this one, I got some help from live videos but often David Gilmour does it differently, so my main source was some semi-isolated tracks I found on YouTube.
As for the rhythm, those parts are all feel and also different on live performances. Really fun to play.

This is a solos that I never get tired of, no matter how many times I hear it.

  • Beautiful, ,,back in my mother's front room laying on the floor with headphones on plugged in to my Sony music center a little bit to smoke nothing else, and let this album carry me to where I'd never been before,1970,s,what a great time for music it was then ,,,, thankyou,❤

  • Nice. Like the tabs and showing the guitar work. Better than the talking about the chords from other peeps.

  • Fantastic. Thank you . I would like to know how long it took you to learn play this music so beautiful just like Gilmore .

  • Jesus, the subtle nuances in this masterpiece always catch you off guard. It's full of traps, and if you’re not paying attention, they can end up sounding like they’re being played by a beginner

  • The entire solo is F# Natural minor. I learned the solo by learning the scale. But the way Gilmour adds bends, wide-vibrato, passion and intensity to each phrase is timeless.

  • I’ve played that Strat in store before it’s as good as it looks trust me… and that was only a squier one I believe.

  • Interested to know why you’re playing the Dmaj7 & Amaj7 chords with the maj7 omitted. Doesn’t sound quite right to me.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
    Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
    Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells
