what a soulless and masturbatory riff. there is such a thing as excessive technicality, and i think periphery is the chief example of that. i liken it to the plague of white rappers who think rapping fast and technically competent compensates for their lack of lyricism and genuinely compelling themes. its just distractive and self-aggrandizing, like an attention-wh*re granted musical form.
