Positive Grid Spark 2 Review

Today I’m checking out version 2 of something that many think is the best guitar practice amp in the world, the Spark 2. Positive Grid sent me the amp to review. I hope you enjoy the video!

  • So let me get this straight… you bagged on the gen 3 katana not being worth the money but this lump of junk is worth it?

  • I preordered. Being able to loop in my living room without needing a bunch of extra stuff will be nice

  • This upgrade is absolutely great in every way except for one MAJOR FAIL!! Apparently plugging into the new stereo/mono line out mutes the internal speakers in the same way plugging in headphones does. This is gobsmackingly weird. I mentioned this to positive Grid who replied "this is the normal way amps with line outs operate". Um…. NO IT'S NOT!!!

  • My only question is… if you got it early? Are you one of the people promoting it making it seem better than it really is?
Don’t take that negatively I value your other reviews or I wouldn’t be subscribed, but I am curious since have it early

  • I purchased the Spark guitar amplifier at full price, only to find out two weeks later, without any prior announcement, that the company released a new model at the same price with additional features. To make matters worse, their marketing now portrays the old model as obsolete. I ended up with an outdated model in just two weeks, with no resale value whatsoever.

As for the company's promotion offering a discount to upgrade to the new model, it's simply laughable and insulting. I've lost trust in this product, especially since the company has not responded to the emails I've sent. I believe this product is not worth it anymore, as the company itself has devalued its resale value.

  • Top video Elmo, I am trying to pluck up courage to start looping with a view to doing solo gigs – so obviously the looper feature is huge as a current Spark 40 owner. Your playing is amazing and i can tell ive made a good decision to upgrade already!

  • Which one you'd prefer; the Spark 2 or the Hotone Pulze? They seem kinda similar to what they offer as a practice amp with all the bells and whistles.

  • It seems great, but I'm tired to having to drain my phone just to use my amp. I will pay extra to put a touchscreen on the box.

  • I have the spark 40, mini, and the Go and they are all really great. The one feature I wanted that they didn't have was the looper, so the spark 2 is pretty neat now that it comes with a looper.

Thanks Elmo for the demo/review/comments on this! Great playing as always

  • Have the spark amp myself. Great piece of practise gear. But nowmather settings the sound is a bit muffled. You dont get that in your face mids. Maybe they adressed this in the updated 2 version. Sounds good tough.

  • Hi does it sound good at low volumes …say 60-70 db and what is the headphone volume like ? Some people complained on the spark 1 it was extremely low and poor ? Tnx

  • Nice review! I may sold, the speaker sounds good for practice to small gig
Man, the scalloped Strat is so fucking beautiful, is that a Malmsteen style's Fender? I mean, a real fender? the headstock says something else.
The speaker stand is way off though :/

  • Thanks for the review – like you – I love my Spark Mini. No urge to upgrade at this point. My next amp will be a Princeton.

  • Great video! At 9:48, when you turned off the overdrive on the app for the Marshall amp, did you have an external overdrive pedal engaged? Thanks!

  • I went for the earlybird special when the first one came out and it took eight months for them to deliver so no thanks lol when I received it it was just a noisy mess. They were shipping them without a grounded adapter. They literally sent me an adapter two months ago, so I was finally able to use my amp and now the spark two is out. They treat Youtubers better than their actual customers. Other than that when I saw you were going to demo it I made sure to watch your reviews are the only ones I trust.????

  • Could have given a bigger discount for the upgrade… not worth the upgrade if I'm paying the same for spark 2

  • I had the Spark 1 for less than 24 hours. The speakers were awful even for a practice amp when compared to my little Marshall DFX30. It also buzzed like hell so I had to plug in a USB cable to remove the buzz. I'm hoping the 2.0 is a better attempt at what should have been a cool concept.

  • Great review, the big question for me is how are the sounds compared to the hotone? Which one you prefer?

  • Did you see the new PRS SE CE 24 standard satin.? Youtube channels are all calling it the best guitar for $500. Your opinion on it would be great.

  • Could you do a review on the Jet-jt300 its Jets entry level tele style heard some good things about it and im looking foward to getting one, would be nice to see an unbiased review by you.

  • Especially on these crunch chords, the Spark 2 murders the Spark mini in terms of tone…

  • Thanks for a great video – I've got a Spark Go with a Spark Cabinet – Can't see any improvement over and above what that combo already offers here? – (Obviously you can tweak with dials but it's not a valve amp) so you've got to tweak on the go – thought that was the point of the app – punch in a preset – so what's the point? – Ultimately more questions than answers here. Perhaps you could shed some light on the finer points of this? As I've mentioned I've a s Spark Go with a cabinet – apart from ecstatically looks, coupled with "you can't get a REAL sound from that mentality" can't see the upgrade is worth it. Positive grid are offering a discount for Spark users – but not to the Go customers like me which seems mad as if it was that good / better we'd be queuing up and worthwhile for them offering an upgrade path?

I've a Marshall Avt 275 sitting in the corner, now gathering dust, as a practice amp its light years ahead at low volumes but limited in terms of effects. I feel thats the point at which this is all a grey area – "Gigability." The Marshall, as bought crossed that divide = an amp you could gig with – 4 channels – more versatile in 2004 – In 20 years I don't think anything has changed, looking forward to spark version 1, 20…. 15 !!!!. Anyway this is a great discussion point is'nt it – maybe ultimately its just all about maximum fun and for that alone spark wins?
