  • Most of the pedals sounded terrific and all sounded at least very good to me. I was most impressed with the JHS Morning Glory that would "cut through a mix more in a live application." But Rabea's playing was the constant that kept me watching to the end.

  • No complaints about any of the tones, but the amp choice masked a lot of the nuances. Some pretty drastically different OD circuits in there that came out sounding very same-y.

  • Something I love about this demo is that it actually showcases what Overdrive pedals were designed to do.

The constant common notion that Overdrive pedals were designed with the intention of players keeping the Gain/Drive at 0 is ridiculous. If that was what pedals like the OD-1, Tubescreamer etc were designed for, they wouldn't have included entire circuits designed to create distortion that emulates a valve amp.

It was meant as an alternative for players who wanted different distortion profiles that their amps simply couldn't deliver. An SD-1 into a Fender Twin can give you a sound that is incredibly similar to an AC-30 on the verge of collapse.

If these pedals wanted to create clean mid boost pedals for hitting the front of amps, then they would have released EQ pedals. Oh wait, they DID.

Folks, don't be afraid to turn up the gain/drive on your overdrive pedals.

  • Made it to the end. His two favorites were also mine. I'm gonna have to get one or both!

  • One of the only YouTube channels that I have continued to enjoy for probably almost a decade. There were many years where I would still watch even if I wasn't actively interested in guitar or kit. Cheers to you guys! Thank YOU!

  • Why not give Rebea an A-B switch, so he knows what pedal he is playing. Lee is switching to much, at times Rebea doesn't know which pedal is on.

  • Great video, and this dude SHREDS. I wish they would have had the standard Blues Driver in there, as well.

  • TC Electronics Combo 65 is my Plan B that quite often is Plan A on smaller stages. The beauty of this pedal is its simplicity. If you can dial up a good tone on Deluxe Reverb or Princeton you can do the same with this quickly and easily. Great for old guys like me. You must update software as original firmware broke up way too early. I love it.

  • These guys are phenomenal at what they do and I am a big fan.

    But better would be:
Compare a Fender clean amp and a Marshall, and single coils and humbuckers, and chords vs leads.

It amazes me how different overdrives behave depending on pickups , amps and rhythm vs solos.

Show 1/2 the pedals and through dif options! Allows the audience say this is how it will work for me.

  • Only just discovering these videos a year late, but what a video! Just the collective mastery of sound that is encapsulated in the playing, the switching and operating of the myriad of pedals and the production are all mindblowing. Possibly the greatest hour the internet is ever likely to see, until I find another one you've made better! Hat off, burnt and thrown to the bottom of the sea – you boys absolutely smashed it ✊️????????????????

  • After watching many videos about overdrives this week trying to learn and better understand this subject and all the different types of overdrives and how they differ or similar in terms of technicality and sound, I must say this is the ultimate video the end up with and it was pure joy

  • I wish the local store had a service like this, come down and jam while they mystery box you until you find your favorite.

  • Probably the Tumnus would be my overall favourite, but there are a few different overdrive topologies in this shout-out and it's sort of apples to oranges. That Blues Driver sounds pretty good but too much fuzz for my taste. Poor Bea had to sit through pretty much 20 times the same ballpark sound… But at least there were no bad pedals.

  • After watching this one and the metal pedal shootout, the BD-2 and EVH 5150 Overdrive totally ran away with it for me. I couldn't believe the other guy didn't pick the EVH!

  • I've always had the Blues Driver. I've tried other ODs for variety but always come back to the BD2. Most versatile for all genres.

  • I did watch the entire video. Very entertaining. I was impressed how long the BD-2 stayed on top. I did like the Tumnus a lot as well. Interesting that the first two pedals were two that I currently have on my board – Soul Food into SD-1. It works for me. I don't really NEED another overdrive pedal, but if I were to spring for one, the Blues Driver would get the call. Great playing as always!

  • Blues Driver winning #1 makes me happy. Blues Driver's definitely one of my favorite pedals I've ever owned. I have an MXR Super Badass Modified OD which I love too but it's a totally different animal.

  • Hi, I love this video, thanks !
I've watched it several times because I love overdrives 🙂
Rabea's technic ans feeling are awesome as well
I think also that Sire guitars are very good, but I'm very interested in what you said at 1:01 about the pickups you replaced. What are the new ones please ???

  • I watched and listened all the way through and I agree, the Blues Driver was my favorite. That was a great vid
