If you think your tiny hands are a hindrance and a curse, then think again!

Because I’ve got the ultimate in quick, quiet hand exercises that’ll have your fretting hand hitting notes you previously thought out of reach.

And the best part? It’s mostly silent! You can park up on the couch playing this exercise next to your spouse while you both watch Netflix, and they won’t hear a thing!

The key element to this exercise is adding a new range of motion and elasticity to your fretting hand.

But we also need to take some of your limiting self beliefs, like “my hands are too small” and “I’ll never reach those notes!” and kick them to the curb, asap.

I used to have a similar belief when I first started playing guitar. I thought my hands would only play the 4 frets I could reach at the time.

But I’m telling you, IF you put the work in, you will see massive, life altering results.

This exercise is simple, fun and guaranteed to get your hands stretching. Play this every day for a few minutes before you kick into your other songs and within a week you’ll notice the difference.

And all of a sudden, those small hands of yours are hitting frets and easily playing solos you didn’t think possible.

Enjoy!

  • The back of my hand is so tight. i never noticed before. seems this is where most of that tension is.

  • Dude you can easily go from the 5th fret to the 12th, poor you with massive hands. Meanwhile I can barely reach the 11th fret comfortably and I know it will not improve judging how spaced my fingers are. You're born lucky

  • Wow, unbelievable. It actually worked for me and I have extremely small hands. I can now reach from 5th to 10th, before I could only reach from 5th to 8th

  • This was awesome! But to everyone who thinks they can’t fly across the fretboard because their hands are physically too small or whatever other reason… check Rick Renstrom. Do yourself that favor and watch one of his lives.

  • Really helpful! I have small hands and a beginner. I also deal with trigger finger which I'm doing exercises for. I have both acoustic and electric guitars and wonder if I should focus more on one over the other while in early stages of learning? Appreciate this video!

  • Haven't had too much of an issue stretching until now, keeping the other strings open while stretching is sooo difficult.

  • I can't reach the 5th fret.
    Try reaching the 6th fret.
Okay I can reach the 5th fret now.

  • My pinky is like 5cm and very weak also my hands are too small so when I keep my thumb a lot below the neck the palm still hits 🙁 and I cant even touch the 4th fret of 6,5,4,3 strings with my pinky.

  • I just stared and my fingers go from 1st to about half way through the second it may be over????

  • The biggest obstacle is it has almost nothing to do with flexibility but rather finger strength when you use a 4 fret gap between fingers 1 and 4.
The 1st strategy was rather than use a finger stretcher which do definitely help you get there, just making a super power chord on frets 2 and 7 on strings 6 and 5 requires pressure and the flexation of holding that static pose builds both strength to the reach while also stretching.

The most critical technique to date has still been doing a hammeron across the neck with fingers 2 and 4, then descending in pull offs with fingers 1 and 3 only to hammer them back across all 6 strings and switch into pull offs with fingers 2 and 4 back across all 6 strings.
Doing that pattern has been more effective for me than just doing hammer ons and pull offs with fingers 2 and 4. That shuffling of things really increases the strength you need when you do the jumbo reach work with a highly desired amount of speed.

Lastly, those finger bars with 4 rings and a plastic bar the rings clamp onto really do help, but the strength you need to build for those positions is still #1 to get to the finish line. In the end, using just 2 rings and pulling fingers 1 and 4 apart with them works far better than doing it with your other hand.
I snag finger 1 and just pull it broadly away from the rest of my hand and hold it as well as pull it back to my hand while using resistance against it, then I do the same thing with the pinky as well as just sticking both in the rings for a static hold with them as far apart as possible.

Virtually no stretches I've tried just by working my hand with my other hand did much of anything.

  • I came looking for excercises I can do sans guitar when im out and about to help practice stretching. I will try to do this tapping on a table or even my knee.
