Recreating Joy Division’s bass tone – Peter Hook’s “Rickenbacker” clipping sound
I tried my best to recreate Hooky’s bass sound from Unknown Pleasures in Guitar Rig 5. No overdrive, no distortion. Just EQ and max input gain to get that clipping sound. Also a bit of reverb to match the modern Unknown Pleasures remaster, in wich they added a bunch of reverb to all songs.
Played on a cheap ass chinese replica precision bass.

Hook also used a very cheap hondo II Rickenbacker copy, so I think the sauce is in the cheap electronics

First time I've seen someone cover Transmission and use that pressure modulation technique that Hooky uses! Also, do you mind sharing your EQ settings? I assume you've got a big bump on the mids.

I use the Zoom B1four on the the chorus effect and my Ampeg BA210 with my Squire 70's CV P bass with GZR pups, it gets me really close to Hookys tone. ????
