  • With the Voca, the vocal is still muddy, still needs some eq. Original vocal is way more open, brighter and doesn't have that muddy sound. Nothing beats carefully picking your processors. All in ones never come close. The old Butch Vig vocals gives you way more control and you can get a much more open sound with it. But still individual selected processors is still the way to go.
The Waves Silk is much better than the Voca, but it's not a fair comparison. The Waves Silk has eq control and a limiter. Which the Sonnox Voca is lacking. I would like to see you add an eq and limiter with the Voca to have a more fair comparison. Because the Voca is muddy because it's lacking any type of eq control. If I had to use one of these. It would be the Silk for a quick rough demo of pop or R&B. But for a pro mix for clients. A carefully selected vocal chain based on the vocal and genre is the only way to go. This is of course my opinion and I can see the Waves Silk being a great tool for alot of mixers. Great Video!!!????????

  • I found Silk surprisingly versatile, fun and easy to dial in. Waves marketing makes it clear it is designed for modern vocals, but found it useful in a lot of scenarios, even on instruments. Works great when combined with an opto. Haven't tried Voca but I'm not convinced it can come close to replacing a trusty opto/tube/vca combo.

  • Has nuro audio Xvox pro been on this channel? It’s one of those all in one solution type plugins for vocals. I just scooped it up on sale a couple days ago. I gotta say, it’s an impressive tool. I’d like to see some use of this plugin from other trusted producers. I might pick up some little tips and tricks.

  • What I admire most about audio engineers is their ability to listen to the same three beats over and over, without scratching their faces off. By the 12th "If he wanted to he would …" I couldn't hear anything over the voice in my head screaming "Make it stop!" ????

  • To be fair that vocal Raw sounded already really great! Allot of time we deal with vocals recorded poorly.

  • Not sure which is the “better plugin” but to my ears Waves achieved a better result for this particular track. Thanks for the demo. ????

  • I j kw you want to hear in the context of the track, but please solo the vocals next time so we can hear the effect more obviously. Thanks for the video! ????????

  • For the first one I like the original mix, there’s more body and the breathes are not as amplified. Just sounds way cleaner in my opinion

  • I’ve had Voca for a few months and I’ve used it a few times. Like you said, it’s a good tool to have in your toolbox. Now I’m interested in Silk too…
    Thanks for the great video!

  • the original mix has just more groove and mojo, but voca and silk vocal seem to be pretty cool tools though, maybe as part of a chain…

  • Am I the only one who thought none of the options really sounded that great? Including the original? She definitely is a great singer though, I’m not quite sure why he thought the voca sounded good at all, there was something cool happening from the silk though when he used the mid band, but still not going to rush to buy it. Izotope Neutron is pretty cool for a vocal for an automatic quick mix tool if you want to try something, sometimes the exciter makes things a bit too harsh though, but it can easily be tamed with a mix level or be completely turned off.

  • Your original sounded better on both but I understand it’s another tool. I really would like to see a vocal processing tutorial on your approach to the dynamic rangy male vocal types like a steve Perry, a steve Walsh, Freddy mercury, Tommy Shaw etc. we rarely see those powerful male vocalists styles where dynamics are all over the place featured on processing tutorials! My wish list!

  • Silk is great. No – it's not the only plugin I use for vocals – I'll usually engage some sends for FX and maybe some parallel saturation/compression/reverb/whatever. But it does an excellent job of taking fairly raw vocals and making them sound a bit more professional and polished. Try the "RAW to Pro" presets as a starting point!

  • I used the silk yesterday on my vocals, and you really named it! The vocal sounds “processed” that’s a really good description. Thanx for this great video and the possibility, to see how you work with this tools!
