When it comes to meticulousness in woodwork, I have no doubt about the Chinese skill. It has been cultivated for thousands of years. Before the advent of DT technology, there are secrets tightly kept by top European luthiers, especially the Spaniards. Hauser, Bouchet and Hopf have their own specialties. Later Australian Smallman started the revolution of guitar making with carbon fibre and lattice bracing technique (and blue tack ????). This technique is further developed by Matthias Dammann, using Nomex, lattice and DT design. Some luthiers used balsa instead of Nomex. I have never played any of those instruments, but the Yulong Guo Chamber Concert I have recently acquired is a very good concert guitar at affordable price. He bases his design on Damann's and Humphrey's blueprint. Being a DT, it hasn't got Spanish voice, but it has its own personality. It sounds more like reverberated ringing crystal/chandelier. Long sustain and even loudness of all notes are the main attributes of this guitar. Of course the craftsmanship with the best choice of material are also unsurpassed. The equivalent guitar like this will normally have a price tag US$15k+.
