Review Demo – Fender ’57 Custom Pro Amp

I’d never really played through a 15” guitar speaker before firing up Fender’s new ’57 Custom Pro-Amp. Sure, in a pinch I’ve jacked into a big bass amp when a guitar amp wasn’t available, but it never sounded good. So while not entirely skeptical, I approached this new spin on a classic tweed with a certain curiosity.
Wow! My ears are now open! As a fan of fat, low-mid-seated guitar sounds, I didn’t know what I’d been missing. But plugging into this 26-watt, thin-cabbed combo rewarded me with a rich, wide tone spectrum and uncompressed clear bottom end. And yet the high end was exactly as I like it—bright when appropriate, but never slicing. And it was impossible to get a bad tone, even when cranking the bass all the way off and the treble to the top—a sound I could certainly hear sitting in a song mix, if not onstage. But perhaps I’m giving away too much? Read on, read on.
The ’57 Custom Pro-Amp isn’t an exact reproduction of the Pro that Fender made in the ’50s, but it is inspired by the original amp’s 5A5 circuit, which was wired into a thin-bodied cabinet. The new iteration is still slim—standing 21” tall, but just 9” from font to back. The original versions had two channels and four inputs—two marked “instrument” and two marked “microphone.” The original Pros came with Jensen speakers. By all accounts, they were unsung heroes in the early Fender combo amp line.

Yes! Finally found one second hand
6:42 "Set down on em, Amos! Make it count, son!"
I’m considering a trade for one of these. This review was useful, thanks
It's a shame Fender charges such a premium for this amp that cuts so many corners, including a ceramic speaker, a bunch of plug-in connectors and lacks cloth-covered wire.
Got one and love it. Highly recommended if you can find one. Massive sound from the lows to the highs. Came with a spare and (much stronger) leather handle than the custom 57 deluxe and champ. Also very usable at low volume. Even more so than the deluxe which basically goes from off to loud.
If someone is interested how this thing probably should sound check this https://youtu.be/IOJz-J0yt7E?t=27
Actually it's a pity how sellers making overyone think that these amps and guitars from big companies are gorgeus but they are actually not. Just because they can be supplied regularly and sell it over and over again. This thing costs almost as an original vintage amp, and way more then good boutique copies that delivers really fair sound that you're expecting.
Don't know what are you happy about and what's wrong with this amp but it sounds terrible and very nasally. You should expect fat rich growl from this circuit. Thought this one is boutique af, even mercury magnetics transformers doesn't help? If someone knows what's going on with this super-expensive thing please tell!
your strings sound brand new, might be a bit of trebbly string noise. good sound all the same
I have a question for you. Could you please tell me how can I learn to play in the day you do at the begin of this video? I mean… I play many songs, I do rhythm guitar and many solos, arpeggios, improvisation and stuff like this. I am even try to learn techniques such as hybrid picking, tappings and so on. But I can't play that way. Don't master the fretboard like that even if I know musical theory. What kind of technique is that? You hope to have an answer from you and give me a useful indication. Thanks.
JB rules!
I am using 1483 Silvertone 26 Watt made by Danelectro with a new 15 Inch Webber special Speaker. I love it better than any tweed.
Does sound sweet . but In my mind that Amp was made for a Gibson John ..now you jack that Tele straite up into A Bassman 4-10 with out a Box or even A Box ..
Some reason That Bassman Is a Stand Alone Amp .Not even a Vox AC30 can Touch It . It is a clear sweet Amp that pro .. cheers .
Overdriven, very ratty sounding. Why can't I find an amp that is harmonically rich with warm, thick overtones?????
Yep. Gonna have to get one of these
That is you play the guitar
Love the B bender
Nothing against the Fender amp, but why is there no criticism? Is there nothing that can be improved on? It's all positive? Doesn't make sense. These so-called reviews tell the consumer very little if anything about the product.
It,s a fender with a fender. What can you say.As a hobbyist amp builder i could make a bandmaster head, a 15" cab a2x10 ,a 2×12" a 3×10 " cab and do it for less than half of what fender wants for that.
Video: 4:00 – 'I love 15s!'

Pro jr or 57 champ hummmmm.
Here comes AAAAAMOS
How does it compare to the bassman ltd reissue?
DIME THAT PIG – killer tone
This guy can make anything sound good
I like this Guy he appreciates the old time equipment.
Have you had a chance to compare this to the Bandmaster they put out a few years back? If so, what's the difference in sound?
wanna hear ur tele (or even better – a strat) w/ amp cranked (no pedals), and then dig in w/a solid shuffle and some leads … I feel short changed, neglected, and disappointed. Need more amp reviews done right – enuf w/the chicken-pickin hybrid shit. Make That Amp Sing
With the bender tele????????
Sounds very compressed to my ears….but you make everything sound good John! m/ cheers
garbagio…go out and play a real tweed….yeah exactly
Yes I agree $2,500 is such soft price, I think i'll get 3.
On the point of not being able to get it growling at acceptable domestic levels: would an attenuator allow access to the real dirt, without getting evicted?
