Review Demo – Relish Guitars Jane

Considering Switzerland’s adventurous design legacy, you’d be forgiven for thinking that there’s just something in the waters of Lake Geneva. That would certainly explain the work of Relish Guitars founders Pirmin Giger and Silvan Küng. They are a decidedly retro-resistant duo, and the Jane manifests their fascination with nonstandard materials and unorthodox lutherie.

Multi-Material Approach
A solid aluminum frame forms the center and sides of the Jane, while the top and back are figured wood veneer—a lovely walnut that evokes fine Scandinavian woodcraft. (The Jane is also available in cherry and ash versions.) The 24-fret neck is quartersawn maple with a bamboo fingerboard devoid of ornamentation, and the smooth, beautifully integrated cutaway lets you easily access the highest notes. The guitar has the streamlined restraint of a haiku: It’s elegant, it gets to the point, and it stimulates the imagination.

  • This company gave me a link to have 4 American guitarists in my network (including Gwen Stefani's) "customize" guitars they would supposedly receive to help the brand expand, just 4, and now will not honor the offer but have all their addresses. The owner, instead of working with us, blocked us on LinkedIn so I have reported the company to Social Media sites and consumer affairs in the US and Switzerland so they may review all of the emails, especially current to new musicians. It's not Covid related, only 4 guitars, and we feel the company is offering new players the same link so able to deliver and not out of business. To block us as the solution – this all falls under false marketing.

  • I love innovation and this is really something particular. It seems to me that the design has evolved over the time ? in this model the pick-ups seem bolted to the wooden top ? i much prefer this version with pick-ups bolted to the through the body aluminum bar

but great concept. I love it. For the sound it is just a matter of buying a good profiling amp/head and then you will have all the sounds in the world available. Almost.

  • A beautiful piece of Swiss engineering. Unfortunately all of the musical character has been lost in the process and what's left is a piece of beautiful, sterile furniture. And those pickup selectors…

  • This is what you get when an engineer designs a guitar and pays no attention to the players opinions. They will be gone faster than they came.

  • I like it !! But , I recon it’ll bomb especially at the cost !! I’ll wait and get one 50% off ????

  • Finally getting away from stupid tone wood crap. Tone wood belief has kept guitars from evolving. A stupid myth that was started just to sell cheaper wood guitars for the same price. Now we can get on with making better guitars.

  • It proves that on an electric guitar wood is not what matters. Great review and a great sounding, very cool guitar!

  • Outrageous price; like so many modern guitars that seem to appear unusual for the sake of it. Then again, I am very old school and would not swap my Gibson 335 for it.

  • good concept.. and neat construct though the design could have been better… but the price tag makes no sense… For that price, the guitar got to sound 200% better than this…

  • I do NOT like the switching. Every video I've seen for this guitar has shown the player having to hit the switch twice on several occasions. Plus, I don't want to have to press two buttons just to switch from neck to bridge. I don't see that as a selling point.  If you're going to put switches on a guitar then they should do something special like coil tap or change the phase of the pick ups. Otherwise, I just want a toggle switch. Is this an active guitar or is the battery only for the switching lights?Having said all that, the wood is beautiful and I think the sound is nice. But $5k can get you two very nice guitars of other brands.

  • Looks like something you can buy from IKEA.

I'm not conservative authentic '54 plastic guy and I like the overall concept and the tone is ok, if it cost $800-1200.
But $5k? Really? For 2 pieces of veneered plywood, aluminum block and fancy capacitive pickup switcher (which must be a complete pain in the arse in a live use)? If you do not stuck with Gibsons and Fenders and like modern approach for $5k you could buy an absolutely fantastic PRS Private Stock guitar. I just don't really see the market for this thing at this price.

  • A phenomenally ugly guitar for all that it is made to a high mechanical standard. Attaching SMA connectors to the pickups and electronics was a nice touch from an engineering standpoint, but it's overkill in the extreme and makes absolutely no sense in any practical aspect. It just elevates cost and makes pickup swaps difficult.

I would not buy such an ugly spud no matter how well it's made. Aesthetic FAIL.
