Rhythm exercise on a Jazz Blues – Jazz Guitar Lesson on a Blues in F
Most students learning jazz guitar are working on the harmony and the scales and trying to hit the right notes. This is of course very important but often you find yourself realising that you need to develop your rhythms so that you don’t only play endless streams of 8th note lines.
In this Jazz Guitar lesson I am going to go over one exercise that you can do to help develop more rhythms and quickly get them into your playing. All The examples are on a Jazz Blues in the key of F

Superimposition of G Major pentatonic (GABDE) over CMaj7 (CEGB) which is similar to CMaj6/9 (CEGABD). If this is not the answer I quit, I give up, I'll go play soccer instead. ????
Great lesson. I have been out of music for about 10yrs. You remind me very much of my previous teacher.
You lessons help a lot to keep order in the development of ideas by practicing. Thanks.
I like these these rhythm exercises, you should some more with different rhythms..Thanks
Should we always practice with the metronome on 2 & 4?
It is not a good idea to keep the guitar hanging over the radiator
Loved your tutorial! You are great at it! Do check my videos and let me know your expert opinion about it :))
I would have to say my friend, you have to be one of the most informative instructors on all the YouTube channels I've seen bar none! Excellent musician! God Bless You Sir!
Great teacher!
Merci Jens pour cette nouvelle vidéo.
Jens,
What is the blue thing on your guitar? I've seen other players use mutes, if that's what the blue thing is. In the 1950's some jazz guitarists used clamp style mutes. I'm not sure what they accomplished with this and why people stopped using them if they were working. You might have seen these also. Can you comment on these devices? Thanks for all your lessons.
Hey, thank you for your great lessons. A bit off topic, but when practicing a tune with lots of changes (jazz blues, rhythm changes, giant steps) would you rather spend your time playing at a really slow tempo for hours outlining the changes in your solo until you no longer have to think about it and still play at a very slow tempo, or as soon you feel comfortable bump up the speed and play until you feel comfortable at the new speed and repeat the process. Hopefully the question makes sense to you:) with best regards
