Rig Rundown – Imagine Dragons’ Wayne Sermon and Ben McKee
Article and photos: http://bit.ly/ImagineDragonsRR
Premier Guitar hung with guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and tech Shane Johnson of Imagine Dragons before their sold-out show at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Sermon showed off a bevy of golden guitars and vintage Vox amps while McKee gets down with Lulls, Sadowskys, and a custom Stambaugh.
Wayne Sermon plays several different BiLT guitars throughout the set. These offset beauties are highly customized with features Sermon specifically needs to create certain sounds from ID albums. His No. 1 is a gold-plated Volaré loaded with a pair of Lindy Fralin Twangmaster humbuckers. Each guitar is strung up with Elixir .011–.052 strings and Sermon uses Dunlop 88 mm 50th Anniversary Gold nylon picks.
Sermon’s BiLT Relevator is finished in shoreline gold and features both an MXR Carbon Copy and BiLT’s own fuzz circuit built into the body along with a Sustainiac in the neck position. Sermon can control the parameters of the effects via a wealth of buttons, switches, and controls that are accessible on the front of the guitar. There’s a Pedaltrain Volto on his strap that supplies power to the pedals via the stereo cable. He keeps this guitar tuned a half-step down from standard.

-thats the Whammy…..! Oh Great!! So ….what else????
Love JB, such a cool guy. Give Shane a medal ???????? Congrats Imagine Dragons, you win the "more money than sense (and talent) rig rundown" All credit to Shane, the most talented guy in the band keeping that gear going. 6 X M9s just for the reverb sound 9n 1 mandolin song, not M5s with the same process, oh no that'd be too practical. Give this tech a medal for putting up with this guy. The record company has bank rolled this ego fest,if these guys were gigging bars they'd all be on Line 6's
I love the tone of the sadowsky jazz bass, I see ben mckee always using a sadowsky jazz bass and wayne sermons bilt guitars sound awesome too
Thanks so much for the run down. Truly amazing. I saw a doco on the dragons' tour of Europe. This was from the touring engineer's perspective. At that time they were using Lab Gruppen amp stacks, can you tell me what they are using by way of main speakers for stage?. That would be great. Thanks again…..
Gear heads should all consider taking a basic electronics course. When this tech says “they’re the only company that does the top-boost mod correctly” he doesn’t realize that the top-boost circuit is a patented schematic that anyone can access. A little education can save gearheads a lot of money.
still one of the best rig rundowns
Awesome!
I didn’t know this band actually played instruments. Still shitty tho
It's crazy to me that he's a Berklee graduate and incredible talented, but they switched to playing synthpop after their first album. Such a cool dude, but man I wish the band would go back to their OG sound
I keep forgetting they have actual musicians in the band
I want to find someone who will look at me like Wayne looks at his guitars))
Quit showing up on all my Pandora playlists ????
Dead and company please
Klon clone

Dis Moins IA I'm from IA
Best band in the wooorrrrllllldddddddddd
Ben McKee needs to adjust the distortion from his vocal cords
Wayne it's so arrogant.
Come on! Not only does a player need to learn to play the instrument, but one must also be a computer wiz! Just give me an acoustic, some gas in the tank and a six pac!
whole vid about guitars and basses. never played 1 note
Those guitars are gimmicks
Wayne's guitar history
Golden guitar
more golden guitar
very gold guitar
pure gold guitar
I love it when no-name internet musicians or non-musicians try to tell us what is and isn't music or who is or isn't a good musician.
If you truly knew what makes a musician or their music great, you wouldn't be sitting behind a screen telling us what it is, losers.
These guys have made a name for themselves, it means they're doing something right, just because their genre doesn't suit your taste, doesn't make it bad.
