Rig Rundown – Living Colour Vernon Reid & Doug Wimbish [2016]
Article and photos: http://bit.ly/LivingColourRR2016
Before their Nashville gig in April of 2016, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid and Doug Wimbish met with PG’s John Bohlinger to talk about their combined sorcery that makes guitar, bass and drums sounds like an army of instruments. Reid and Wimbish utilize killer chops and miles of pedals and cables—making their tech Jeff Cummings the hardest-working man in show business. During the interview, bass legend Billy Cox crashes the party for some avuncular bass commentary.
Reid’s muse has recently brought him to work with PRS to create his No.1, a 2015 S2 Vela VR prototype with EMG 57/66 pickups and a Roland GK synth pickup. The somewhat complicated controls allow Reid to mix, match, and blend all the pickups together.
Since 1987, Wimbish has played his ’87 NS2 Spector signature model prototype bass that features an EMG PJ Pickup set wired into a Spector preamp section and strung with Rotosound .040-.100 strings.

Vernon is a mad scientist! I love all his effects, amazing guitarist.
Vernon is super chill and cool but always looks annoyed and bored lol????
Cool guys! I have to say, I've never seen that much gear for signal processing. Whoa Vernon!!
what a cool guy!!
I watch this every year. It's my own version of It's A Wonderful Life.

Vernon's phenomenal abilities are downright otherworldly and sound truly God-like. His "Cult of Personality" solo still gets all the hairs on me standing straight up like I'm being electrocuted. He truly is an Artist's Artist of the highest order anid if Randy Rhoads were alive today he would likeky be good friends with and hanging around with Vernon Reid.
They are playing in a restaurant?
Were people intending on dining whilst watching Living Color? ????
Dude is so underrated. Love Vernon Reid!
VERNON is without a doubt my idol and biggest inspiration. Have met him for moments at a couple of shows over the years. He's gracious and kind and just cool as fuck. the man for me is our generation's Eddie. his touch, feel, tone, vibe, unparallelled
i just saw them last saturday in cleveland February 2024 and vernon appeared to have Laney’s. he and the entire band were amazing !!!
I would like to have Vernon as my neighbour. Impossible to get into conflict with
Billy Cox appears outta nowhere??? Best one ever! Vernon is the "Jimi Hendrix" of the 21st Century! Question is though…. What would happen if their rigs go down? ????
Love me some Doug.To see a veteran of his stature still expanding with everything technology has to offer is refreshing. Also, massive respect to the legendary Billy Cox.
Vernon is the innovator of guitar the first using Ipads and all that crazy complex stuff haha
What patch cable does he use?
Incredible ❤❤❤❤
Oo weird !
Ugh, too much crap for me!!!
I need an amp, a few pedals, couple guitars, done.
Vernon seems super cool t hang with!
Damn he has mass equipment !
Being a “two pedals and 2 cables” guitarist, I have the greatest consideration of those cats who carry an apartment of gear around
Does anyone know just which Catalinbread pedal that is at 14:18?!? It's driving me crazy and i need it.
Day one fan with Vernon and have had a few interactions on ig. He is such a humble great guy
Vernon Reid is so cool
My boss met Billy cox he was one of most graces and down to earth person.
I met Vernon in Harlem at a Bowie tribute event in 2015 I think, and he was rocking out to my terrible band in a room of 15 people. He was so incredibly nice and so sweet. So humble. I had just began playing bass after a 5 year hiatus and we were objectively bad. You wouldn’t know it watching him rock out to us and cheering us on. He came over and introduced himself to ME. I’m a nobody. We had a very long chat and he graciously took a photo with us. A rockstar and incredible musician with zero ego. A memory I look back on fondly. Protect this man at all costs! God bless Vernon.
I love his signal path!
With a signal chain that long it must be sucking alot of tone. I douby everything he uses has true bypass.
