Drew Shirley of Switchfoot did a pre-soundcheck hang with PG’s John Bohlinger at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. Shirley’s straight-ahead approach to gear and music has driven Switchfoot’s sound since 2003.
Drew Shirley tours exclusively with Elliott guitars. His No. 1 is a collaboration with the North Carolina-based company dubbed the Royal Haven. It embodies the classic power of a Les Paul Junior with the look of an Epiphone Coronet. The pickups are Elliott’s own P-90s and Shirley strings the guitar up with a set of Ernie Ball .011s.
The idea behind Shirley’s two-amp setup is that he wants one to have lots of headroom and the other to sound like it could blow up at any minute. The 65Amps London is an 18-watt amp that Shirley uses on tunes that require cleaner tones and offers plenty of headroom while the Revival 8E1 is a 5-watt combo that is always on 10 and on the verge of breaking down (in the best way possible). The London feeds a Revival 2×12 open-back cabinet that houses blue and green Celestion speakers.

How's here after Drew left switchfoot?
John shirt is the best
You can see two types of guitarists here. The “gear”guy and the “all about the music” guy

Seems like a real down to earth dude.
Love guitar players that know and love the gear!
this guy would come into the restaurant I used to work at in north county san diego. absolutely the nicest guy. I never worked up the courage to introduce myself, but really a good guy.
Does anyone know what brand of guitar strap is on the black tele? I’ve been trying to find one forever and can’t figure out who makes them

compensated saddles
Seen him play so many times. He's always so concentrated on his tone and doesn't let any note go untouched. He works his hardest to give his heart through every chord and every strum. Humble humble man. Love you Drew.
I always wondered what happened with Revival Amps! I was really excited for that project. It sucks that it never went anywhere. (Drew talks about it briefly at 19:21.)
You guys should do a Civil Twilight rig rundown.
Man, I love John Bohlinger, he seems so excited on every rig run down he does. Gotta love his genuine excitement, it really shows on camera.
I know this is sorta unrelated…but please do a rundown of Underoath on their upcoming BMTH tour
"im a big fan of jhs hes a buddy of mine" abort, abort!!!!
He is such a gear geek! Super cool guy too.
Do The 1975!! Please
not a huge swtichfoot fan but he seems like one of the nicest cool guitarists i have seen on rig rundown
What is the company that makes his cable? Also, the pedal board connectors, anybody?
Awesome! Love this!
I think the interviewer guy was trying to hide his boner
please do a rig rundown of Jon foreman
Kings of Leon rig rundown
Guitars aside, I'm incredibly impressed by Drew's retro 80's look…those cuffed jeans and sneakers speak volumes for squares everywhere….
Which the pedal is the fuzz / tone bender? Company? Signature maybe?
